A stark grey world appears before his eyes
Like a melancholic whisper fading in the wind
Ashen daylight thickens for each painful step
To fall asleep just to wake up to a dying world
Visions of that vibrant, opulent field
Her erstwhile writings, now a distant memory
I yearn to fuse with this cold earth
I beg to return to a state of worth
In oceans of rust and decay I swim
On this lurid path I sing my final hymn
Sisyphean cycles and sulphurous skies
I yearn to die but I am being denied
Derelict monuments forgotten by mankind
The sky has lost its meaning and lo, the sun is now blind
To wander this world-wide cenotaph forever
Misery is the only light in this endeavour
