Covered in blood that isn't mine
The penalty for the sin I committed was death but another was willfully convicted of my crime

Emmanuel came to dwell among us so that through Him we might know the father loves
And it's not a love that seeks to receive but to give because He knows our needs and before we are ever filled with the courage to admit that at times we're just too weak
He sees
A back was lashed in place of mine but His stripes bring healing
A sight unappealing but the messiah bled and gasped for air to breathe so how in-con-siddd-er-ate of me to be unyielding

The picture painted in scripture is full of wounds, tragedy, and betrayal and the blow that can sometimes be most fatal
Is inflicted on us by ourselves
You see
We hold hands with devils, climb in bed with principalities all to fill the empty space inside when Jesus died simply because love compels
Love compels us to sacrifice but God desired mercy more so the very sacrifice of Life that Jesus gave despite the plight was merciful
I'm covered in blood that isn't mine
And the settlement for my offense was for me to die but an unblemished lamb was pierced instead of I because Jehovah is Jireh
