She was a mermaid she belonged to the water
I was a sailor wandering the seven seas
Looking for love and unexplored islands
She saw my vessel and began to sing
I furled the sails and dropped down the anchor
She said "baby are you ready to dive?
Too many hungry sharks crave my body
You look the same, please change my mind"
So I stepped down from my lonely galleon
Gave her my heart on a silver tray
She smiled and said "it's our destiny"
But the truth is
She doesn't deserve a song but I
Write it anyway
She filled her mouth with a million lies and
Promises she could never keep
She said "Darling at least we tried
Don't get me wrong, you are a lovely guy
But there is plenty of fish in this
Big blue sea"
On a cold night I returned to the Harbor
To fix my boat and drink my pain away
The old pirate told me "just remember
A good sailor only looks to the stars"
I was sleeping when she knocked on my cabin
Whispering "I'm lost and I'm full of fear
Forgive me, mermaids are sometimes confusing
But I'm sure you're the one for me"
So I stepped down from my lonely galleon
Gave her my heart on a silver tray
She smiled and said "it's our destiny"
But the truth is
She doesn't deserve a song but I
Write it anyway
She filled her mouth with a million lies and
Promises she could never keep
She said "Darling at least we tried
Don't get me wrong, you are a lovely guy
But there is plenty of fish in this
Big blue sea"
