Waiting at a Stoplight - Life's a Competition Lyrics

Waiting at a Stoplight - Life's a Competition Lyrics

Life's a competition and the balls in your court
You better shoot a three
It better not fall short
Make everything count and do your best to stand out
Don't try to fit in with the crowd or you'll never get out

You gotta be better than the best of 'em, better than the rest of 'em
Rise to the occasion for everyone's always testin' ya
I picked up the guitar and I've started to play
Because of my limited time to rhyme
Getting older everyday

I wanna make my mark
I wanna climb up the charts
But people try to drag me down
They try to tear me apart
I keep my drive and hope alive
And I continue to fight on just moving forward to survive

I just try to be me
Unlike the others around me
They are the phonies in augmented reality
But nobody sees the error in their ways
We praise these fakes on social media every single day

This life's a competition think of the opportunity you're missing
Just to sit on a couch and stare at a television
People have a choice but they chose nothing to say
We let these others speak for us while we sit out of the way

We need to take control and actually live our lives
Instead of sitting around watching the time fly by
But I know no matter what I say
No one's actually listening their focus has gone away

By now it's shifted to staring at their phone
Because their attention span is even shorter than my own
The human train of thought is becoming more limited
In today's world we've all become self addicted

Life's a competition and the balls in your court
So get up off the bench and show us what you stand for
If you wanna make your mark you better do it now
Because you only have so long before your time runs out
