Somber states of wonder
Our restful days are numbered dear
Counting them on smoke stained fingers
A gentle hum is all that lingers here
Pull the velvet veil back
Painting me in shades of lilac tears
All that's left is hope uncovered
Fighting back the weight we never should
But I've seen you it's something so discreet
Hiding from those eyes that never sleep
We could build a home we'll never keep
And I'll pour my heart out on every street
And someday we'll wash it all clean
Dear stranger I feel the pull
Message of surrender a letter to let go
It's times way of saying it will pass
Thinking about what could have been as we write our epitaph
But I've seen you it's something so discreet
Hiding from those eyes that never sleep
We could build a home we'll never keep
And I'll pour my heart out on every street
And someday we'll wash it all clean
