I am just the ghost of a man you'll never know
Trapped inside a mine many years ago
And if you try and touch me I disappear like snow
When the sun shines on the plains of Idaho
I am just the whispering of sounds you'll never know
Like the silance of a traveller with nowhere else to go
And if you try to catch me I turn around and flow
Through your hands like the streams of Idaho
Burley, Pocatello, Shoshone and Boise
Clearwater, Grangeville, Nampa, St Antony
If you ever try and stop'm, those spirits never slow
As they journey through the towns of Idaho
I am just a crack, through me winds they blow
Never do I ask them where it is they flow
And like the winds I travel on, where it is I go?
To the glorious plains of Idaho
I am just the memory of something been and gone
Like the shadow of a flower where once the sun has shone
And if you try and search for me you'll find me far below
The frozen hills and plains of Idaho
Time a mighty warrior, deeper than the sea
Always there to tie you down or to set you free
But when at last its race is run, I know where time will go
To rest beneath the plains of Idaho
