History of Violence

The city's on fire
The streets are a riot
Now look at this place, no one is safe
No one is safe from you

So beautiful, she knew it every single day
Got a smile that left him right around the way
Yeah, it makes you feel good, wondering why she stays
So afraid, afraid of you
She need a sedative to get her straight
You know she need a cigarette, she got the shakes
Put them sunglasses on to hide her face
Such a waste, a waste on you

Tell me, why are you ashamed?
Too scared to run away
You love him anyway
Surviving just on the pain

The city's on fire
The streets are a riot
Now look at this place, no one is safe
No one is safe from you
Oh, look what you've started
It's a history of violence
Now look at your face, no one is safe
No one is safe from you

Maybe the way out is a .38
God gave her a sign, not a moment late
Tonight, she's gonna point it at his f*cking face
Then bang, he's blown away

Tell me, why are you ashamed?
Too scared to run away
You love him anyway
Surviving just on the pain
Tell me where she went wrong
She hears sadness in every song
She knows someday that she'll be gone
Until then, please, stay strong

The city's on fire
The streets are a riot
Now look at this place, no one is safe
No one is safe from you
Oh, look what you've started
It's a history of violence
Now look at your face, no one is safe
No one is safe from you

Still in shock from the blast, sure the neighbors heard it
Now or never, crossed a man and it wasn't worth it
No regrets from what the judge calls a bad decision
Now she's doing twenty years in a women's prison
Yeah, she'll never have her life, will she feel at all?
She'll never know what it's like not to feel alone
No kids that will love her unconditional
No cure for a sickness that's medicinal
She flying high in her cell, she can finally breathe
She flying high outta hell, now she finally free
Man, he fed her to the lions, that monster
He promised her diamonds for silence
It's the history of violence

The city's on fire
The streets are a riot
Now look at this place, no one is safe
No one is safe from you
Oh, look what you've started
It's a history of violence
Now look at your face, no one is safe
No one is safe from you
Now look at your face, no one is safe
No one is safe from you

Oh, look what you've started
It's a history of violence
Now look at your face, no one is safe
No one is safe from you

Affluenza

At school, they made fun of my clothes
Had a matching shirt and slacks, yeah, my mom made those
Rich kids smiling ear to ear
Catch 'em saying, "Smells like broke in here"
I'm getting paid but it's hard to flex
When you ain't got four zeros are the end of your checks
My dad worked hard for a roof overhead
He never got us gifts, he gave us love instead

Never swore, yeah, I grew up right
I always dreamed of a better life-uh
Ethan Couch killing people with his binge, yeah
He got stricken with the affluenza
SoundCloud rapper, all silver and gold
But he ain't got enough to buy a soul
Get them Yeezys and cars for cash
Ain't got a dollar to wipe his ass

[Chorus]
We just buying things, we can't afford it
Barely getting by, should we thank the Lord for
All the things that we don't have
We're all so broke, yeah, face the facts, yeah

Clippin' coupons for a family of four
Minimum wage don't cut it anymore
Single parents shopping clearance for a brand name
So you can fit in and pretend you're doing okay
Remember growing up for it makes you strong
Things are just things you won't miss when they're gone, yeah
We're up against the sharp edge of a knife
But tell me (hey)
Ain't that the life

We just buying things, we can't afford it
Barely getting by, should we thank the Lord for
All the things that we don't have
We're all so broke, yeah, face the facts, yeah

We're all on welfare
We're all on welfare

Fourteen and there was nothing that could phase me
When the worst thing in life was a brain freeze
Look, Ma, no hands on my 10-speed
Ghost riding down the street by the Mickey D's
I'm waving at planes like they see me
Telling wild stories like you'd ever believe me
Could've been cop enough just to chase me
Yeah, we never had a penny when you raised me

We're all on welfare
We're all on welfare
Ain't that the life
Ain't that the life, uh
Ain't that the life
We're all on welfare
Ain't that the life
Ain't that the life, uh

We just buying things, we can't afford it
Barely getting by, should we thank the Lord for
All the things that we don't have
We're all so broke, yeah, face the facts
Diamond rings adhere to flaws that
Our life shouldn't have to broadcast
All the things that we don't have
We're all so broke, yeah, face the facts

Ain't that the life
Ain't that the life, uh
Ain't that the life
Ain't that the life, uh
Ain't that the life
Ain't that the life, uh
We're all on welfare
Ain't that the life
Ain't that the life, uh
Ain't that the life
Ain't that the life, uh
Ain't that the life
Ain't that the life, uh
We're all on welfare

Strangers

The dark side of the city
Sirens are the stereo
The dark side of the city
How low can we go?
How low can we go?

Don't let it get you down, no
We're getting more than we can handle
We live a dangerous scandal
No love, no
No love, no
Kids afraid of being shot up
The shooter drills are how they brought up
With E. Gonzalez we all stand up
We call B.S. though, no love, no

The left-wing, and right-wing, the flex, and the fight
Afraid to speak out when we know this ain't right
Our thoughts and our prayers, they don't help if we die
Time to change it (yeah)

We're all living like strangers
We ain't living like neighbors no more
No love, only anger
How low can we go?
How low can we go?
Oh-oh, whoa-oh, whoa-oh-whoa
Low, oh-oh, whoa-oh-whoa
Low, oh-oh, whoa-oh-whoa
How low can we go?
How low can we go?

The upside-down is now the future
Friends don't lie, but, damn, they use ya
If social media don't choose ya
You're just a shadow
So shallow

Money and greed don't get you what ya want
It's beating us down, we don't want it to stop
Out here just spilling our blood for the top
But we about to feel the drop

We're all living like strangers
We ain't living like neighbors no more
No love, only anger
How low can we go?
How low can we go?
Oh-oh, whoa-oh, whoa-oh-whoa
Low, oh-oh, whoa-oh-whoa
Low, oh-oh, whoa-oh-whoa
How low can we go?
How low can we go?

Instead of tryna forgive we all got something to prove
Instead of fighting to win we out here choosing to lose
Instead of calling for peace we out here yelling for war
Instead of setting hopes high we got our face to the floor
Instead of speaking our minds we ain't got nothing to say
Instead of showing some love we got a heart full of hate
Instead of breaking from lies we out here bending the truth
Instead of fists in the air we got a Nazi salute

What more can I really do?
Just goes on, and on, and on
Wouldn't expect me to put up a fight
'Cause we just strangers after all, right?

We're all living like strangers
We ain't living like neighbors no more
No love, only anger
How low can we go?
How low can we go?
Oh-oh, whoa-oh, whoa-oh-whoa
Low, oh-oh, whoa-oh-whoa
Low, oh-oh, whoa-oh-whoa
How low can we go?
How low can we go?
Oh-oh, whoa-oh, whoa-oh-whoa
Low, oh-oh, whoa-oh-whoa
Low, oh-oh, whoa-oh-whoa
How low can we go?
How low can we go?

Ted Bundy

Feeling high
Running low, running low, so I need a kick
Killing time
She don't know, she don't know I'm a lunatic
Walk me home
What a night, what a night, but the mood is dead
All alone now
It's a lie, it's a lie, it's all in my head

It feels right, but it's criminal, our love is criminal
Oh, oh
Why you gotta be so beautiful, so beautiful?

[Chorus]
Baby, you know that I love you to death
But I'm never gonna see you again
Baby, you know that I love you to death
Yeah, I'm never gonna see you again
She gettin' wise to it, gettin' wise to it, to it
Baby, you know that I love you to death
Oh, that I love you to death

Feel alive
Fall in love, fall in love, but you're laying still
Deep inside, yeah
There's a hole, there's a hole you will never fill

It feels right, but it's criminal, our love is criminal
Oh, oh
Why you gotta be so beautiful, so beautiful? Yeah

[Chorus]
Baby, you know that I love you to death
But I'm never gonna see you again
Baby, you know that I love you to death
Yeah, I'm never gonna see you again
She gettin' wise to it, gettin' wise to it, to it
Baby, you know that I love you to death
Oh, that I love you to death

All my life, yeah
See the world, see the world through an open mind
Be my wife, yeah
Be the girl, be the girl that I leave behind

Baby, you know that I love you to death
But I'm never gonna see you again
Baby, you know that I love you to death

Baby, you know that I love you to death
But I'm never gonna see you again
Baby, you know that I love you to death
Yeah, I'm never gonna see you again
She gettin' wise to it, gettin' wise to it, to it
Baby, you know that I love you to death
Oh, that I love you to death

World Keeps Spinning

Why I always gotta be afraid?
Yeah, I'm sick of all the stomach aches
Always dizzy, haven't eaten nothing
Always sleeping, haven't seen nobody
Out here living in the Wild West
A lack of confidence is when I'm at my best
I'm just a burnout trying to fade away
Like a moth drawn to the flame
They talkin' shit, ain't quick enough to block it, no
I'm getting hit, fallin' down, so I'm staying low
I feel it's all for nothing, I'm feeling all alone
That voice is saying something, it's saying, "Welcome home"

I miss my mom, I miss my friends
I miss it all, but in the end
Whoa, the world keeps spinnin'
Whoa, the world keeps spinnin'
I'm feeling lost, I'm feeling dead
I feel it's all maybe in my head
Whoa, the world keeps spinnin'
Whoa, the world keeps spinnin'

Body's aching from all the stress (all the stress)
Yeah, I'm dead inside, my skin a mess (my skin a mess)
One on one, I can hold my own
But I'm out here fighting like I'm Al Capone
Gonna sell it like it's end of days (end of days)
My mama telling me it's just a phase (it's just a phase)
I don't know what to do, yeah, I just want to scream
I don't mean shit to you, I ain't a human being

I miss my mom, I miss my friends
I miss it all, but in the end
Whoa, the world keeps spinnin'
Whoa, the world keeps spinnin'
I'm feeling lost, I'm feeling dead
I feel it's all maybe in my head
Whoa, the world keeps spinnin'
Whoa, the world keeps spinnin'

Home alone is when I hurt the most
Floating through life like a f*cking ghost
I ain't stupid, I can be who I wanna be
I ain't blind, I can see what you do to me
There's no plan that I can't oversee
I feel that no one got a f*ckin' brain
Monkey see, monkey do, monkey me, monkey you
Monkey see, monkey do, monkey me, monkey you

I miss my mom, I miss my friends
I miss it all, but in the end
Whoa, the world keeps spinnin'
Whoa, the world keeps spinnin'
I'm feeling lost, I'm feeling dead
I feel it's all maybe in my head
Whoa, the world keeps spinnin'
Whoa, the world keeps spinnin'

Say Nothing is the seventh studio album by Canadian rock band Theory of a Deadman, released on January 31, 2020, through 604 Records in Canada and Atlantic and Roadrunner Records in the United States. The record contains lyrics about such issues as domestic violence and racism. The band opted to continue their collaboration with Swedish music producer Martin Terefe—who worked with them on their previous album Wake Up Call—returning to London in April 2019.

Their prior album marked the group's departure from their usual hard rock sound to a more pop- and pop rock-infused style and was met with mixed reviews from critics.
