The passage knob assures me of an open-ended leave
I won't go far if you're ajar, I come back as I please
A welcome mat to greet me back ignores the fight or flight
A deadbolt on the other side concealed and out of sight
It took a while for me to learn
Not every open door is a call for me to enter
Although I may not be sure,
I'll keep your memory front and center
There's nothing I won't censor
If it means that I will get to be at the place that I was meant to be from the start
I'll follow my heart
Next time, I will think twice before I walk right through an open door
You laugh at all the times I fall, yet I'm the one unhinged
And with a smile, you take a mile when all you give's an inch
The knob I see's a privacy, and now I can't get in
You changed the lock, and though I knock, you hide yourself within
It took a while for me to learn
Not every open door is a call for me to enter
Although I may not be sure,
I'll keep your memory front and center
There's nothing I won't censor
If it means that I will get to be at the place that I was meant to be from the start
I'll follow my heart
Next time, I will think twice before I walk right through an open door
Now I realize I'm on the other side
The shelter I was promised is far-off and occupied
Now I see you chase new tenants for your place
The fine print on your lease is still unchanged
Not every open door is a call for me to enter
Although I may not be sure,
I'll keep your memory front and center
There's nothing I won't censor
If it means that I will get to be at the place that I was meant to be from the start
I'll follow my heart
Next time, I will think twice before I walk right through an open door
