Sol rises on an ice world once long dead
Not so distant this third planet yet there it wanders
Frozen all over asking to be fed
Gaia reaches out through cold space and time
Asking Sol for reprieve
Some more warmth to melt the sorrow
And shine light on Humanity's "peace"
Nuclear winter in full force across the surface of the sea
And land there is no cover to protect yourself from this agony
Long ago microbes darted around in the dark to save themselves
Now their successors do the same for they are their genetic progeny
Cycle of life halted by this winter preceeded by Human fires
Epoch of mass extinction upon scarified Terra, so dire
But deep below under the surface of all this terror
Mutations in the deep dark water continue unhindered
Near the thermal vents
Where life once on this planet arose
It shall rise again
In a few eons with a new form
And perhaps they too will conquer the land
Or just as likely water, not air, is their medium
Sprouting appendages adhering to the golden law of
Biology and Universal thought manifesting itself from
Beyond our reach they peer into our world as random points of thoughts
Nothing more than an abstraction that we know as thermal energy and
Temporal shifts in a system continuously being fed
By a burning ball of plasma so distant and uncaring yet life-giving
Blessing this region with its warmth for Earth and Her kin, but so useless
Thanks to Mankind's intervention, yet life goes on in the deep
Near the thermal vents
Where life once on this planet arose
It shall rise again
In a few eons with a new form
And perhaps they too will conquer the land
Or just as likely water, not air, is their medium
