A distant power plant
Built from scrap metal from the war
I'm on the graveyard shift
I'm all alone, close to the core
Caught in a lab, in a maintenance room is where I dwell
Splitting atoms for a living... hell
I hear a distant noise
Some crucial levels have been reached
On the surveillance screen
The primary containment has been breached
(And the warning message goes something like this)
There is a partial core melt
There's a disaster close at hand
The cooling systems
Are too unstable
And there are things here that I really should disarm
Before the sound of the alarm
A lockdown sequence rolls
The mainframe's going bluescreen and then blank
I feel a sudden cold
And strange vibrations from that septic tank
My radiation suit
Is full of holes and doesn't fit
This place does not compute
And finally I think it's time to quit
Which won't happen 'cause the place is going down
I watch the cracking walls
And big machines falling apart
The banging water hammers
Hold with the beating of my heart
As the fallout might really do me harm
I hear the sound of the alarm
Caught in lab in a massive heap of debris
Crushed by junk and I can't break free
Not going anywhere!
I'm out of options, out of time
I'm running out of air
The pipes around are leaking with slime
(Some glowing stuff I usually do not touch)
I feel the water boil
Somehow I don't feel any fear
This radioactive coil
Is signalling the end of my career
I sing the meltdown countdown
In a few minutes I'll be toast
Level seven
I'm gonna roast
But like the captain on a sinking ship I am staying on my post
And I go nuclear as the skin melts on my arm
To the sound of the alarm
To the sound of the alarm
