I'm a son of a carpenter and my momma was a factory worker
I grew up in 2 room flat in a little town called Paarl
We use to play in the streets till the sun went down
Winter times we a made fire and everyone would gather round
I'm an African boy born and raised under the African sun
My roots run deep in this soil of this African land my home
Growing up in the 80's wasn't easy
Back then the colour of your skin
Mattered more than your humanity
My parents fought in the riots for a better life for all
Still it's difficult to be a coloured man
In a black and white South Africa
I'm an African boy born and raised under the African sun
My roots run deep in this soil of this African land my home
Africa, Africa, Africa my heart, my home
Africa, Africa, Africa my heart, my home
Black, white, coloured, all people my blood, my own
Black, white, coloured, all people my blood, my own, own, own
I'm an African boy born and raised under the African sun
My roots run deep in this soil of this African land my home
