Shantara Bird - History Lyrics

My history will forever be a part of me
But the choices I make right now
Will take me where the future leads
My history will forever be a part of me
But the choices I make right now
Will take me where the future leads

I was thinking back to the first time I devirginized my lungs
How it forever changed the tone of every song I ever sung
Its a grit you cannot get unless you been though some stuff
And it always takes me back to when I took my first puff
Chilling with the cool kids thinking I'd finally fit in
Since that day I've gotten better on how I pick my friends
We all snuck outside my sisters taekwondo tournament
And they crashed my mamas car, thank god for the insurance
And I'll always remember when I would ride my bike
Dad said keep to this road here and be home at suppertime
But I pushed the limits rode all the way downtown
Begged the passersby for change to call my friend on the payphone
Then one day at school boys crashed my bike into a tree
I went home and cried asking why they had to be so mean
We couldn't afford a new one parents tried to comfort me
"In ten years it wont matter" yeah, now I prefer walking

My history will forever be a part of me
But the choices I make right now
Will take me where the future leads
Yeah my history will forever be a part of me
But the choices I make right now
Will take me where the future leads

Grandma I want you to be proud when I sing
Even though I know you don't agree with everything
Times are different nowadays and I know it must be hard
But the life I lead will always be with an open heart
When I was growing up trolls resided below bridges
Now the only thing they're riddling are internet pages
I'll get over it despite my feeling bad about myself
Cuz my forgiveness is for me more than for anybody else
If all you got to give is bitter you must need a little sweet
Making lemonade from lemons is a simple recipe
The moral of the story is give thanks for what you got
And never give yourself up to be something that you're not
I got a lot of demons coming out to play lately
And I used to be so scared like what if they all hate me
But I don't care bout what you say I'm rubber you're glue
Cuz its easier to talk shit than to do the things I do

My history will forever be a part of me
And the choices I make right now
Will take me where the future leads
Yeah my history will forever be a part of me
But the choices I make right now
Will take me where the future leads
