Sarah Segal-Lazar - Streets of My Town Lyrics

Well they say home is where the heart is
But I lost my heart so long ago
Got buried 'neath the vast expanse
Of hundred wattage snow
And winter turned to spring
But then how mud encompassed everything
So I resigned to bide my time
And left my heart below
So I bought myself a compass
Placed it where my own heart ought to be
And since all compasses point north
I guess the Great White North is home to me
Levees may break
The earth may quake
And buildings will fall down
And craters may appear in every street of my town
Brittle as bones
They stand exposed
These trees on hollow ground
If they can plant their roots
I guess that I can too
On these streets of my town
Well no man is a nomad
For his whole life it seems to me
Feet get tired and soles wear thin
When wandering for eternity
And fate can be a fickle thing
When you don't believe in anything
But somehow I wound up
Back where the streets are paved with memories
So I bought myself a pocket watch
Just to hear that ticking sound
And I felt the wind pick up outside
As I watched the hours count down
Levees may break
The earth may quake
And buildings will fall down
And craters may appear in every street of my town
Brittle as bones
They stand exposed
These trees on hollow ground
If they can plant their roots
I guess that I can too
On these streets of my town
And I don't know if I'll stay this time
If it's different than before
But these streets will keep my heart safe
'Til I find the home I'm looking for
Levees may break
The earth may quake
And buildings will fall down
And craters may appear in every street of my town
Brittle as bones
They stand exposed
These trees on hollow ground
If they can plant their roots
I guess that I can too
On these streets of my town
Levees may break
The earth may quake
And buildings will fall down
And craters may appear in every street of my town
Brittle as bones
They stand exposed
These trees on hollow ground
If they can plant their roots
I guess that I can too
On these streets of my town
If they can plant their roots
I guess that I can too
On these streets of my town
