Going to the Brigham Young Pioneer Pony Show
From the corner of the state I rode all night
With a lashing of your tongue ringing in my ear
And an urge to kill rising with the light
I renounce my heathen brethren
But she wouldn't let me go
And as I grew stronger in my convictions
My heart, it just grew cold
So I did what I must do
And then I left just as I should
And as any of you fine gentleman would
Well it pains me to say it
And I'll never be the same
But trust me Utah will remember my name
"Come forth you honest Christian soldier
Tell me all your sins"
Well pastor, honestly I don't know where to begin
Please absolve the horrors I have wrought upon my kind
And let me in
Oh god please let me in
So I gave myself to Jesus with the cross of my name
Said that all I have I'll give and I will give the most
Now with conflicted interests and a predilection for fame
I will take back all between me and the coast
And though all I do is his work
And some might call be vain
Trust me Utah will remember my name
I dreamt I rode the Jupiter to some celestial heights
Carriages filled with brothers and enemies too
I looked down form the heavens on the extent of His earth
And then I knew exactly what I must do
By the power vested in me I will take this virgin land
And transform it into something more correct
From my honest heart shall flow only honest deeds
And at Promontory God and man will intersect
