Ryan J Miller - Good Samaritan Lyrics

Ryan J Miller - Good Samaritan Lyrics

On one occasion, an expert in the law
Stood up to test Jesus
Teacher, he asked, what must I do
To inherit eternal life

What is written in the law? He replied
How do you read it? He answered
Love the Lord your God with all your heart
And with all your soul and strength and mind

Love your neighbor as yourself
You have answered correctly, he said
Do this and you will live
But he wanted to justify himself

So he asked, Jesus, and who is my neighbor
In reply, Jesus said
A man was going down from Jerusalem
On the road to Jericho

He was attacked by robbers there
They stripped him of his clothes
Beat him and then went away
Leaving him half dead

A priest was walking down that road
But when he saw, he passed him by
A Levite, too, came to the place
He saw him and went on

But a Samaritan on his way
Came where the man had fallen down
When he saw him, he took pity
Bandaged wounds with oil and wine

He put the man upon his donkey
Brought him to an end that day
The next day took out two denarii
Gave them to the innkeeper

Look after him, the man had said
And when I return again
I will reimburse all extra costs
Any more you have to spend

Who was the neighbor in this tale
The one who had mercy on him
Jesus told him, go and do
Go and do likewise
