Grandma always had her wits about her
Always level headed, loved you like she meant it
Just the sweetest
She couldn't yell above a whisper, heart was made of gold
She always kept her cool, she always felt like home
That greenhorn cowgirl on the plains, did she ever know the road she'd pave
On the map of my life to get me where I am today?
She would just smile sitting in her chair
Hands folded thumbs rolling around and round and round
She would just know some things you can't control
But if there's peace inside your soul
It's the only thing that really keeps you going at the end of the day
And when the world is falling apart where you gonna turn your attention?
She would look to Heaven
Grandma used to say that some people are so open minded that their brains could fall out
Well Grandma if you only knew how the world was looking today
What would you say?
She would just smile sitting in her chair
Hands folded thumbs rolling around and round and round
She would just know some things you can't control
But if there's peace inside your soul
It's the only thing that really keeps you going at the end of the day
And when the world is falling apart where you gonna turn your attention?
She would look to Heaven
She would look to Heaven
Within a matter of weeks cancer took its toll
She was almost 87 still the sweetest soul you'd ever meet
It must've been her time but it didn't feel right
This wasn't what she deserved
But even wasting away her heart stayed the same
Even when she stared death right in the face
She just smiled laying in her bed hands folded my hands holding hers
I was looking at her when I started to say my goodbye
Then she said
"These things you can't control but I've got peace inside my soul and I know exactly where I'm going" at the end of the day
And when my world was falling apart her eyes told me another story
She reminded me this world is just a small step before Glory in Heaven
She would look to Heaven
That greenhorn cowgirl on the plains, did she ever know the road she'd pave
To Heaven
