Group leaders Joe and May,
Showed up early on Christmas Day,
We gathered 'round the recovery meeting,
With hot cocoa and a gratitude teaching.
Johnny brought his new friend Sam,
Fresh outta rehab, a quiet man.
We didn't know what to say at first,
'Til he spoke up and shared a verse, "Peace on earth, goodwill to all."
We strung the lights, hung the wreaths up high,
Laughed and sang, and wiped our eyes.
Pass the cookies, pour the coffee strong,
Tell the stories of where we've gone wrong.
Send someone for more pumpkin pie,
And those paper plates we forgot to buy.
A can of yams and some apple spice,
A little kindness and a bit more ice.
Hallelujah, gather 'round the tree,
Merry Christmas at the recovery meeting, you and me.
Ray showed up with his guitar,
Drove it here in his beat-up car.
He strummed a tune that we all knew,
And we sang along, voices true.
Old Tom shared about his hardest year,
But with each word, he found cheer,
He said, "Christmas here means so much more,
Than what I was looking for before."
We lit the candles, one by one,
And remembered how far we'd come.
Pass the cider, put the carols on,
Share the moments where we've grown strong.
Run down quick to the corner store,
We need some tinsel and a bit more decor.
A bag of nuts and some candy canes,
Some extra napkins for the gravy stains.
Hallelujah, gather 'round the tree,
Merry Christmas at the recovery meeting, you and me.
Sally came in with a smile,
"Thought I'd stay just for a little while."
We made room and handed her a chair,
'Cause Christmas is for everyone there.
We swapped tales of our first steps here,
Found grace, found laughter, and found cheer.
Pass the laughter, let the stories flow,
Talk of where we've been and where we'll go.
Send someone for another plate,
And some mistletoe for the door we decorate.
A jar of pickles and some Diet Cokes,
A bit of love and some friendly jokes.
Hallelujah, gather 'round the tree,
Merry Christmas at the recovery meeting, you and me.
Hallelujah, let's raise a toast,
To the ones we love, to the ones we've lost.
Merry Christmas from our recovery family,
Here at the meeting, where we're finally free.
