Sittin' in the shade of a tall old oak
Tryin' to sing a song that my Daddy wrote
For my Mom
His old guitar's got a broken string
But, I do my best and I try to sing his song
And as she listens
A tear comes to her eye
And I asked her
What's makin' her heart cry
She said
Your Daddy would be proud
If he could hear you now
Singin' the songs he used to sing to me
And every now and then
You sound so much like him
I could swear he's sittin' here again with me
Time went by
Mama passed away
Now Daddy sings to her every day
I know
I went on chasin' after stars
Playin' my songs on his old guitar
On I'll go
When I felt like givin' up
I always knew
If I remember Mama's words
Then I'd pull through
She said
Your Daddy would be proud
If he could hear you now
Singin' the songs he used to sing to me
And every now and then
You sound so much like him
I could swear he's sittin' here again with me
I could swear he's sittin' here again
With me
