The muse in the morning of the town you were born in sings one day this place'll produce
The birth of the greatest, launch a life for the ages, you're determined it's gonna be you
Intentions of besting all opposing champions, filling folks with pride upon your return
Inspired childhood repetition and exertion all worth it for the capital city victories you'll earn
The cavalry at dusk is just you and your friends
With all the aspirations, effort and heart to content
Well-traveled and tested to compete and transcend
And build a myth making miracles again and again
Before you know it somehow it's done and it didn't work out, you're no phenom your just 25
Discouraged, disappointed in yourself and your choices, freaking out about the rest of your life
The workouts, temp jobs, cross country desires pull you this way and that so none of it comes out right
Your spirit gets tired, watered-down and divided between your dreams and fears of falling behind
There's reckoning that comes with the dreaming of deeds
When left unaccomplished and you gotta make peace
"I don't wanna give up," you silently scream
But nobody seems to know or care what you mean
Just time passing by and picking up steam
Aging, regret, existential woes and the contrary reality of life's harshest blows
Leaves you longing for forgiveness, validation and a witness to your character, your best dreams and hopes
That they'll be measured and matter and marked-down forever, you want so badly for 'em to count
For all the failures and glories in your tiny epic story to mean something somehow
But for now
The cavalry at dusk is just you, my friend
Scared about heaven and never growing up again
Uncertain that it's gonna be alright in the end
Just making your way, doing the best that you can
Your little Iliad is about to begin
