MORRIS RANDOM POET - The Mission Bell Lyrics
Official

Venus is small town in southern highlands county
During the nineteen twenties it was boom town
There was a saw mill in just above town on state road 8
The Rail Road kept busy hauling all the wood
There were two gas stations by the highway
And a couple Grocery stores close by
The brick school house resided on County Road 731
Way down by the railroad tracks
The school needed a bell to ring in their classes
Al Capone had a hideout in Palmdale just south of Venus
He found out about the need for a bell
There was a train stopped nearby in Venus
So, his men went and got the bell
Took it back to the school to use for the students
Where it remained for many years
As history moved down on Florida
And the Saw mill began to run out of wood
Soon the Sawmill was gone
And the last Gas station closed
For a long while the grocery stores held on
One of the last was Albritton's down by the curve
Then one day it was also gone
But Venus still carries on
Soon the student population dropped
The school had to move students to nearby Lake Placid
The Venus School is there no more
But People there are still Strong and proud
Meanwhile the bell went to the Methodist Church
Where it resided as the Mission Bell
When the Methodist Church moved to Interlake Boulevard
In the town of Lake Placid they hung it in the Bell Tower
They built a new church over by Lake Clay
And the old church became a Christian School
Years passed and the story was lost
Few people new of the Mission Bell
Well, the Christian School went on for a long time
Ringing the Mission Bell for classes everyday
Hundreds passed through its doors
And listens to the ring of the bell
The Christian School has passed on to History
And so has the Mission Bell
We know not where it is to this day
But we're are still searching for the Mission Bell
That's the Story of the Mission Bell
The way it was told to me
If you find it, please let us know
The Mission Bell
