Moments Often Missed - Nowhere City Lyrics

I had just started high school
When I realized how trapped I felt with where I was
Maybe it was my hometown
Maybe it was the rows of houses that all looked the same
With little cloned mailboxes
And soft, neutral colors
And people that didn't surprise me
And school work that put me to sleep

My best friend was this girl named Honey
She was sort of neurotic
But I guess that's why I liked her
Because I felt like she knew things of the world outside of this place

One day I told her that we should go
"Where?" she said, and I said
"Anywhere. Nowhere at all. Away from here"
She got this glint in her eye like she had this devious plan
And I really thought she was so magnificent in that moment

We paid for a bus to New York City
It was far away and we fell asleep on each other
And had two backpacks and nothing else

When we got into the heart of the city
We passed by a bustling area with
Glowing bulbs of light lining the buildings
And neon street signs
And blinking billboard advertisements

We got out at Times Square and the rush almost knocked us over
It was loud and crowded and tacky and thrilling
We found a rooftop bar with blaring music and chatty people
And Honey said, "Let's dance," and I said, "Okay"
And she pulled me out to the dance floor
And I spun her fast around
And we were hugging and laughing
And she kissed me
And we pretended like we were in love
We were young, and so far away from home
And not thinking about tomorrow
