Middle Kid - Flipped Lyrics

Middle Kid - Flipped Lyrics

When you woke up this morning
And ate half a bagel
You reminded yourself that you'd always be faithful
You love who you love, and that'll never change
You'd never behave how your parents behaved

Maybe one year you had a bad Christmas morning
You woke to the news that dad's not returning
They broke off their vows, said you weren't to blame
But the lesson it taught you would make them ashamed

Later one evening you walked down the stairs of your
Split-level home, and saw your mom crying
She's sat on the couch, building up walls
Toughening up for the new men to come

And maybe that point was when you started to realize
That it wasn't in vain and there was just a thin line
Between loving and pain, at times they're the same
Two sides of a flipped coin in a pile of change

Now that you've grown, and you live with your partner
Your parents are both three marriages older
It never worked out, no it just never came
They wanted to feel loved before they dug their graves

To go in search of gold will seldom be rewarded
But you never give up, you never stop hoping
That the next biggest find, where ever it lies
Will end all the searching and close both your eyes
