Matchbox 20 - Where the Light Goes Lyrics

Friends

Flower in the desert
Spring into the fall
Rushing to the west side
When the east sent out the call

Lessons in the matter
Of staying on your feet
You can fall under the weight of it
And it can bring you to your knees

But I am never giving up
I am, I am, I am, I am
Holding on for a feeling

I don't need no one to hold my place
You can't take my thoughts
They're not your thoughts to take away
I don't need no one to tease my faith
I don't need no one to celebrate

'Cause all my friends, all my friends are here
All my friends, all my friends are here
All my friends, all my friends are here
Hey, all my friends, all my friends are here
Singing it out

Devil in the blue sky
Angel in the deep
Writing out your best lines
And forgetting how to read it

Counting in the wrong time
Starting on the three
There's a rhythm to the way life goes
It can knock you out of key

But I am starting to believe
I am, I am, I am, I am
Holding on for the real thing

I don't need no one to hold my place
You can't take my thoughts
They're not your thoughts to take away
I don't need no one to tease my faith
I don't need no one to celebrate

'Cause all my friends, all my friends are here
All my friends, all my friends are here
All my friends, all my friends are here
Hey, all my friends, all my friends are here
So singing it out

So singing it out
Singing it out

All my friends, all my friends are here
All my friends, all my friends are here
All my friends, all my friends are here
All my friends, all my friends are here
Singing it out

All my friends, all my friends are here
All my friends, all my friends are here
All my friends, all my friends are here
All my friends, all my friends are here

Wild Dogs (Running in a Slow Dream)

We were eyes wide open when the world got dark
Dancing to a rhythm that felt so hard
You could feel it
You could feel it
And blood eyes, cold vapor racing through my veins
Chasing down a feeling that I can't explain
But I need it
Yeah, I need it
And the wild dogs calling from the other side
Come on over, we could run all night
Whoo-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh

And the world just stops
But the night goes on
And the strangest sound
Like a wave that keeps on crashing over me

And when you hear it calling
Out underneath your window
There's a world outside that's waiting
Saying come on, come on, come on
We got a restless feeling
And in a world of people
There's only you and me
Wild dogs running in a slow dream
Wild dogs running in a slow dream

We were crash hard falling like a waterfall
Slow, sweat dancing in the music hall
We were shining
Yeah, we were trying
Got a slow start running, we were picking up steam
All time lows and small town scenes
On the big screen

And the world just stops
But the night goes on
And the strangest sound
Like the waves that keep on crashing over me

So when you hear it calling
Out underneath your window
There's a world outside that's waiting
Saying come on, come on, come on
We got a restless feeling
And in a world of people
There's only you and me
The wild dogs running in a slow dream
Whoo-ooh-ooh

And if we get lost somewhere
God, I hope we never will be found
'Cause everybody else's small town dreams
Are crashing over me

And when you hear it calling
Out underneath your window
There's a world outside that's waiting
Saying come on, come on, come on
We got a restless feeling
And in a world of people
There's only you and me
Wild dogs running in a slow dream

Wild dogs running in a slow dream
Yeah, wild dogs running in a slow dream
Whoo-ooh-ooh, whoo-ooh-ooh
Whoo-ooh-ooh, whoo-ooh-ooh

Rebels

When you lose yourself in a photograph
And the room gets heavy
'Cause you can't go back to sixteen
To rainbow hair and ripped jeans
To keep your head above the water
Sometimes you had to hold your tongue

We're all rebels when we're young
I think it's time you let it go now
When you get angry with yourself
And there ain't no other road out
You blame the rebel that you sold out

And it's all exciting
You were so alive
Like a wheel in motion
You were terrified you'll lose it
Hell, everybody loses
It was never how you wanted
Now it's never good enough

We're all rebels when we're young
I think it's time you let it go now
When you get angry with yourself
You blame the rebel that you sold out
You blame the rebel that you sold out
That you sold out

Let go and be yourself right now
Let go and be yourself right now
Let go and be yourself right now
Let go and be yourself right now

When you're all messed up
And you don't know why
You're rattling cages and the world just flies by
Like you're losing time
But you can't go back
You can't go back, no

We're all rebels when we're young (we're young)
I think it's time you let it go now (go now)
When you get angry with yourself (yourself)
You blame the rebel that you sold out (that you sold out)
You blame the rebel that you sold out

You blame the rebel that you, you blame the rebel that you
You blame the rebel that you sold out, sold out
You blame the rebel that you, you blame the rebel that you
You blame the rebel that you sold out, sold out

One Hit Love

Don't wanna be your problem
Don't wanna be your pain
Don't wanna hold your sorrow
All in my hands
Don't wanna sell you something
I could never be
I know it feels like that

'Cause it's always dying hearts, broken bones
Shooting stars with nowhere to go
Like a one-hit love, one-hit love
All the laws of hope and dreams
What is lost or meant to be

Maybe we're just moments moving sideways
Maybe we're just made to be alone
We don't know
Are we getting lost in the silence?
Maybe one-hit love is all we know
And we won't let go

We don't stop trying
We don't stop

We were never really young
Now we're so much older
Than we thought we'd be
In the same old places
And we're never gonna leave
And if we don't look down
Then we might not feel it
And we're never gonna change it

'Cause we're all just dying hearts and broken dreams
Are we lost or in-between?

Maybe we're just moments moving sideways
Maybe we're just made to be alone
We don't know
Are we getting lost in the silence?
Maybe one-hit love is all we know
'Cause we won't let go

(We don't stop trying) yeah, we won't let go
(We don't stop) yeah, we're all just dying hearts
And broken dreams
Are we lost or in-between?

Maybe we're just moments moving sideways
Maybe we're just made to be alone
We don't know
Are we getting lost in the silence?
Maybe one-hit love is all we know
We don't let go

We don't stop trying
We don't stop

It's what we're feeling
(We) where we started
(Don't stop) what we say and where our heart is
(Trying, we) all the reasons we keep fighting
(Don't stop) so if you're stepping off the ledge
And on your way down
(We don't stop) I'll be with you all the way down, down
Down, down, down (trying)
We don't stop

Warm Blood

I don't know what you've heard
But I don't know what you think
Maybe now it's time we talk about it
I, I am almost certain
We're hanging off the brink
Maybe we're just better off without it

We could be strong
We could let it go
We cannot hide it
And we can't deny it

We're just warm blood
Only there to save us when we have none
I don't wanna, I don't wanna say it's bad luck
Picking off the pieces of our sad, sad love

You've got all your eggshells
Hidden underneath your stares
I've got my distractions to replace you
Oh, we act like there's a reason
Left for you to care
I act like there's some reason left to face you

And we are so close
To extinction
We can't erase it
We cannot change it

We're just warm blood
Only there to save us when we have none
I don't wanna, I don't wanna say it's bad luck
Picking off the pieces of our sad, sad love

This is such a bold lie
I don't wanna say it
I don't wanna say it
This is such a bold lie
I don't wanna say it
I don't wanna say it

Warm blood
Only there to save us when we have none
I don't wanna, I don't wanna say it's bad luck
Picking off the pieces of our sad, sad love

We're just warm blood
Only there to save us when we have none
I don't wanna, I don't wanna say it's bad luck
Picking off the pieces of our sad, sad love

Queen of New York City

There's a rhythm to her heart
And a world inside her head
She'll tell you from the start
Boy, you don't know her yet
She's like a constellation
Of stars that don't connect

And she's dancing on the sidewalk
Just like all the neon signs are spotlights, she says

"Ain't I the Queen of New York City?
I'll take 'em all down with me
'Cause I'm gonna run this town"
She's got some kind of way about her
One look and you don't doubt her
Seeing's believing now
Don't you believe her now?

She says, "Man, I'm gonna leave this town
'Cause I got wings under my feet"
Then she tells you she gets vertigo
When she goes above 14th Street

And then she smiles at you the way that people smile
When they're trying not to cry, and she says

"Ain't I the Queen of New York City?
I'll drag 'em all down with me
'Cause I'm gonna run this town"
She's got some kind of way about her
One look and you don't doubt her
Seeing's believing now
Don't you believe her now?

"Well, ain't I the Queen of New York City?
I'll take 'em all down with me
'Cause I'm gonna run this town"

"Hey, I'm the Queen of New York City
I'll drag 'em all down with me
'Cause I'm gonna run this town"
She's got some kind of way about her
One look and you don't doubt her
Seeing's believing now
Don't you believe her now?

(Don't you believe her now?)
Yeah, don't you believe her now?
(Don't you believe her now?)
Hell, I believe her now, yeah
(Don't you believe her now?)

Where the Light Goes

Can you tell me where the light goes
Every time your eyes close?
If it's there, then it doesn't show
Tell me where the light goes
I wanna know

Can you tell me why the room dims
Every time you leave it?
And I'm a shadow of a heartbreak
And a ghost of all the endings
All I wanna know
I wanna know-oh-oh

'Cause I burn like fire
And I walk on wires
If I lose myself
Just meet me part of the way
Part of the way-ay

Will you tell me where the light goes
Every time your eyes close?
If it's there, then it doesn't show
Ah, tell me where the light goes

There's a feeling that I don't get
When I'm reeling from the night sweats
Take a roll around a cigarette
And I still don't feel quite like me yet

'Cause I burn like fire
And I walk on wires
And I lose myself
When you just give it away
Give it away-ay

Will you tell me where the light goes
Every time your eyes close?
There's a wall that was a window
Tell me where the light goes
All I wanna know-oh, oh, oh, oh-oh-oh

I don't wanna lose my place
I'm still afraid
Pray to the gods that bring down the endings
I think I get it, but I don't understand
How it can blind me and then it's over

Will you tell me where the light goes
Every time your eyes close?
If it's there, then it doesn't show
Tell me where the light goes

Tell me where the light goes
Yes, tell me where the light goes
There's a wall that was a window
Ah, tell me where the light goes
All I wanna know-oh
I wanna know-oh
I wanna know-oh
I wanna know-oh-oh-oh, oh, oh

Tell me where the light goes
Tell me where the light goes
Tell me where the light goes

Hang on Every Word

Don't let your falling stars blow out
No matter what you've heard
Don't let the rainy days
Cloud what you're seeing

I know you're thinking that you've shown up
With so much you need to learn
But all you have to do is talk to me
And I will hang
Hang on every word
Word that you say

Let your voice be the edge of my world
When nothing goes right
And all you can speak is the hurt
I will hang
Hang on every word

It's okay if you can't
And it's okay if you freeze
'Cause it's about what you'll do next
That gives you meaning

And sometimes they mean to break you
And sometimes you need to be scared
But I am right around the corner
When you're there
And I will hang
Hang on every word
Word that you say

Let your voice be the edge of my world
When nothing goes right
And all you can speak is the hurt
I will hang
Hang on every word

You, you can feel free to brag
You can cry up a storm
If all that you need is someone to believe you
I will hang
Hang on every word
Word that you say

Let your voice be the edge of my world
When nothing goes right
And all you can speak is the (hurt)
I will hang
Hang on every word
Hang on every word
Every word
Hang on every word

And if suddenly everything starts to be clear
But there's no one around here
That you think will care
I will hang
I'll hang
Hang on every word

Dont Get Me Wrong

I'm feeling calm but I'm never relaxed
I feel it coming but I'm holding it back
I'm on the edge but I never attack
I'm straight off the moment
But I still come back like that

I'm a strong man, weaker than I once was
Weed and bramble still hard to handle
I can hold my own if you need me
I'm standing here, can you see me?

Sometimes I'm standing where I wanna be
Sometimes I hate you but you feel so nice
I know you think I'm gone
But I'm all in, don't get me wrong
Sometimes I know I'm gonna lose it
I'm all caught up, I'm faking
Without you I'd be gone
Don't get me wrong, don't get me wrong

I got a past but it's present tense
I keep it covered like it's rubber cement
I got a side that you ain't seen yet
I know I'm looking dry but I'm feeling soaking wet
I'm a razor walking on a tight thread
A contradiction stranger than the fiction
I'm flying blind but I can see you
Don't run away, I still need you

Sometimes I'm standing where I wanna be
Sometimes I hate you but you feel so nice
I know you think I'm gone
But I'm all in, don't get me wrong
Sometimes I know I'm gonna lose it
I'm all caught up, I'm faking
Without you I'd be gone
But don't get me wrong, don't get me wrong

Now can you hear me?
Say how you're feeling
We tie all the lines we've drawn
And let's just hold on

Sometimes I'm standing where I wanna be
Sometimes I hate you but you feel so nice
I know you think I'm gone
But I'm all in, don't get me wrong
Sometimes I know I'm gonna lose it
I'm all caught up, I'm faking
Without you I'd be gone
Don't get me wrong, don't get me wrong

I Know Better

I will always know better
So I really don't see
A problem with knowing the answer
In the absence of those who agree

I've got access to information
That's very hard to find
So you must forgive me
For taking up your time

You see, I've done my research
A lesson should be taught
So when you tell me why you're right
I'll show you how you're not

I'll engage you and persuade you
Help you make up your mind
I implore you, I adore you
I would never lead you blind

To let you go on, knowing you're wrong
Would be worse than unkind
'Cause in time, you will find
I know better

I've got references and contacts
A reputation to uphold
I've been accused of more than a few
Of my tactics being cold

But none of that should really matter
Clearly, you could use my help
I've done it before and I'll do it again
My record speaks for itself

I'll engage you and persuade you
Help you make up your mind
I implore you, I adore you
I would never lead you blind

To let you go on, knowing you're wrong
Would be worse than unkind
'Cause in time, you will find
I know better

I won't let 'em do to you
The things they did to me
(Did to me, did to me)
Yeah, they'll plant it right inside your brain
Like a digital disease

I just want you to hear me out
(Hear me out)
And then I'm sure you'll agree
That this is what they don't want you to see

I'll engage you and persuade you
Help you make up your mind
I implore you, I adore you
I would never lead you blind

To let you go on, knowing you're wrong
Would be worse than unkind
'Cause in time, you will find
I know better

Yes in time, you will find
I know better

No Other Love

(No other love)
(No other love)

You say you're sorry, well, I forgive you
It's all just smoke, we're moving on
'Cause it don't matter in this moment
I could be the water, you could be the stone

'Cause I wanna smooth you over
I wanna slow it down
I wanna soak you up

No other love is gonna shake me
No other love can break me
Tear me down or make me whole
No other heart is gonna thrill me
Hold me up or kill me
You know I don't need no other love

No other love (no other love)
No other love (no other love)
No other love (no other love)

You say you're falling and will I catch you?
Well, I'm right here, so just let go
'Cause I'm the rain and you're the desert
Well, just step out from that ledge that you've been standing on

'Cause I wanna smooth you over
I wanna slow it down
I wanna soak you up

No other love is gonna shake me
No other love can break me
Tear me down or make me whole
No other heart is gonna thrill me
Hold me up or kill me
You know I don't need no other love

No other love (no other love)
No other love (no other love)
No other love (no other love)

We don't have to fight no more
Let me hold you close
You're everything I want
You know I don't need no other love
You know I don't need no other love
You know I don't need no other love
You know I don't need, I don't need
I don't need no, I don't need no

No other love is gonna shake me
No other love can break me
Can tear me down or make me whole
No other heart is gonna thrill me
Hold me up or kill me
You know I don't need no other love

Selling Faith

You and me and all this love
Ring the bell 'til summer comes
Calling out from a long, long way
We'll hold it down for one more day
And when that day turns into night
We'll dance with the devil in the pale moonlight

And I know I ain't been righteous
But there ain't nowhere to turn
I'm falling, but I don't know how far down
I don't need to understand it
I just need a guiding light
If you're selling faith, then I'm buying right now
If you're selling faith, then I'm buying right now

There's a road that I can't explain
It draws the line between love and pain
And now I'm not sure where it goes
And there ain't no signs to help me know
But if you tell me to, I'll drive all night
Just let me know when I arrive

Because I know I ain't been righteous
But there ain't nowhere to turn
I'm falling, but I don't know how far down
I don't need to understand it
I just need a guiding light
If you're selling faith, then I'm buying right now
If you're selling faith, then I'm buying right now

Right now

Because I know I ain't been righteous
But there ain't nowhere to turn
And I'm falling, but I don't know how far down
I don't need to understand it
I just need a guiding light
If you're selling faith, then I'm buying right now
If you're selling faith, then I'm buying right now
