Well the sunrise gleams bright over the Wheatland
And the big Living Sky leads on for miles
And not a thing to cross my mind in the stillness so sublime
That could turn me away from that Old Prairie Road
It wasn't just a way back home, it was a way of life
Everything I ever was or thought could become
Just an old gravel road heading southbound
At a turnoff sign, "head East on Hwy 1"
When I hit the open road back in '14
And I took that ol' Trans Am out in the Sun
And when my dad gave me the keys to her before I left all on my own
He said, "Don't you worry son, I'll be here when you get home."
And I can still hear his voice, I can still see his face
The depth of a father's love - held strong for his son
And he kept his word true from all those years ago
When I came back home a-rolling on Hwy 1
Well the highway led on and my love was growing strong
As I drove on my way back to you
And I had brought the ring with me, to ask if you'd agree
And you were saying 'yes' as I got down on my knee
Don't know where the road will go, don't know what the future holds
I guess we'll find our way when all is said and done
So we'll go hand in hand, and take it day by day
As we set off on the road down Hwy 1
Yeah we'll set off on the road down Hwy 1
We can find our way somewhere on Hwy 1
