Manchester Orchestra - Cope Lyrics

Top Notch

There's two twin deaf kids and they've gotta make
An ungodly decision
They decide which one gets to leave this place
And which one will forsake it, to make it

So, the first kid says in his temporal tone
I don't think there's a way to resolve this
We should wrap up these towels round our blisters and bones
Way it out in the closet

His brother looks him up and down and prophesies
How all of this should end
He said they're buried underneath the yard
And no one ever listens to physics

All that I know, it's no way to fix it
All that I know, it's no way to fix it
All that I know, it's no way to fix it
All that I know, it's no way to fix it

Did it really matter how it happened when it did?
'Cause when it happened, you react to it and I let it win
So she tried to wash it out but that's a stain that won't dissolve
And we all believed in ghosts until you walked into the wall

So devil!
So devil!
So devil!

All that I know, it's no way to fix it
All that I know, it's no way to fix it
All that I know, it's no way to fix it
All that I know, it's no way to fix it

Choose You

The invention of the ship
Was the invention of the shipwreck
I tried to find out who I was
By jumping off the deck

I intentionally clipped the intervention like a trip wire
Picked a color tried to bribe the bad one back into his bed

And I don't, won't
I don't, Choose You
You

Underneath the Christian Court there was this saying in the bricks
That you don't determine greatness by a man's intelligence
No you won't determine greatness til you really start to dig
And you find out all those empty things that he lets discourage him

And I don't, I won't
I don't Choose
And I don't, I won't
I don't Choose you

I tried to walk away
You broke the cast and tried to say
"I am not the man you kill
I am not the man you choose"

See it back to back aways today
I tried to clean you tried to pray
"I am not the man you kill
I am not the man you Choose"

And I don't, won't
I don't Choose
And I don't, I won't
I don't Choose You
You

Girl Harbor

'Cause you always talk so loud,
And you never notice,
I don't mind the sound but you've,
Rearranged the pieces of your life,
So many times you burned out the parts.

I don't wanna believe,
But I wanna believe you,
I don't mean what I say,
But I say what I mean to

So now your last name is mine,
And I feel no different,
I made a match that's trying to prove,
Trying to find a way I can explain,
There was nothing else to possibly say.

I don't wanna believe,
But I wanna believe you,
I don't mean what I say,
But I say what I mean to

You waste so much time,
You waste so much time,

On desperate friends,
Trying to reconcile their names,
There is a name for men like you inside the dark,
And I know your faults,
I know the way you write them off,
I don't want anything to do with it no more.

I bet most the time,
You're too insecure to admit it,
You're the last in line to move,
Now I'm running out of things that I can say,
'cause nothing that I say is really helping anyway.

I don't wanna believe,
But I wanna believe you,
I don't mean what I say,
But I say what I mean to

I don't wanna believe,
But I wanna believe you,
I don't mean what I say,
But I say what I mean to

You waste so much time,
You waste so much time,
You waste so much time,
You waste so much time

The Mansion

Oh mom, my heart is so black
You find it insane to apologize
For something like that
It won't revolve around me
Or how I feed on almost every inappropriate thing
We know the guy that drew the map
But he's a graveyard away

He never wanted to stay

I was painted red
I never read the actual words
They're kind of faded I guess
You said I called you ?no shoes?
Man we all make mistakes
I swear to god it wasn't just you

I found the guy that found the map
He's going insane
He can't remember my name
He can't remember my name

And it was just like you said
We got back to the mansion
Bowed both our heads
I saw a flash in the sky
I recall you saying there's no one there
But the devil and I

I am the man who proved the map was wrong
It's never the same

Its undeniable change
Its undeniable change
What a deniable way
What a deniable waste

The Ocean

That boat
When I float, it's the last in its class
I'm the first one to know
That bay
It's never made, I'm the last of my kind
F*cking tricked by my training

Oh, oh, no

I, I give it to the ocean, the ocean, the ocean

I hope
You don't choke on that last passive word that you keep in your throat

It's so cool to be you
We're all walking around like a kid out of school

I, I give it to the ocean, the ocean [x2]

There's a ghost
And it knows
What I know

So I let go

I, I give it to the ocean, the ocean [x4]

Every Stone

You might just have missed the mark
If you're keeping everyone away
Didn't mean to
Didn't want to
Well we might just leave a mark
If you don't give anyone a say
Never want to
Never mean to

Every stone I've thrown has gone away
Has gone away [x2]

Every stone I've thrown has gone away
Has gone away
It's gone away
Away [x2]

It's a notion
That doesn't matter even if we stay
And it's overrated
And manipulated
Nobody ever has a say
It makes me wonder who can wait
And attest my patience
Cause it's not worth waiting

Every stone I've thrown has gone away
Has gone away
It's gone away

Every stone I've thrown has gone away
Has gone away
It's gone away
Away [x5]

Away [x2]

All That I Really Wanted

I've been left out a while
I sold the family plot for time
Sold the only thing I liked
So I could taste it

You've been drinking all night
We both know when you're drunk
The future rewinds
It happens every f*cking time
But you erase it

All that I really wanted to do was to leave it all
All that I really wanted to do was to leave it all
For you

These days that you finally find
That pure restitution is not on your side
There's never been a place to hide
You have to face it

Nobody thinks you're actually right
It feels like a battle, it's more like a fight
You always bark, you never bite
I don't believe it

All that I really wanted to do was to leave it all
All that I really wanted to do was to leave it all
To you

Let me make up my mind [x3]
So I can change you

All that I really wanted to do was to leave it all
All that I really wanted to do was to leave it all
For you

Trees

I used to feel some guilt
Now I just feel empty
I wasn't supposed to bend
Least not this quickly

I wanted to walk
Oh you, you wanted to run
I wanted to talk
Oh you, you wanted to slide

I want to believe
I've got to believe

I used to feel some thrill
Now I just feel thrifty
I tried to clear my pain
I just made it empty

I wanted to walk
Oh you, you wanted to run
I wanted to talk
Oh you, you wanted to slide

I want to believe
I've got to believe

So I wanted to walk
Oh you, you wanted to run
I wanted to talk
Oh you, you wanted to slide

Indentions

God is all of the time
Red box, wood baptist sign tonight

Some local kid lit a fire
They burned down everything inside

I won't leave indentions of me, me

God is watching tonight
How long can you be knighted now?

Cause all the progress you made
Won't end up meaning anything

I won't leave indentions of me
I won't leave intentionally

It doesn't matter to me
I tell myself repeatedly

What a nightmare it seemed
To honestly think anything

I won't leave indentions of me
I won't leave intentionally

See It Again

When I got out of my car
I stopped myself and thought about
How unimportant locking the front door was seeming
The only reason that I turned the lock and key
Was to protect the only living thing inside
Other than me

And I'll never get to see it again
No I'll never get to see it

When I watched the others wait
It made me shuffle in my seat
And I felt like everyone around somehow related
Not knowing eachothers names we gathered here to see
If the ones that we've been waiting for would continue to breathe

And I'll never get to see it again
No I'll never get to see it again
No I'll never get to see it again
No I'll never get to see it again
No I'll never get to see

That all this money doesnt matter
When the money only pays
For narcisistic medals
We would kill for yesterday
But this it has no price tag
Just a tag around the toe
Thats slowly going back and forth
From warm to pretty cold

And I'm never gonna see it again
No I'm never gonna see it again
No I'm never gonna see it again
No I'm never gonna see it again
No I'm never gonna see it

Didn't mean to talk about blood
Didn't mean to bother both of you
Didn't really need to say much
Didn't mean to talk about blood

Didn't mean to talk about blood
Didn't mean to bother both of you
Didn't really need to say much
Didn't mean to talk about blood
Didn't mean to talk about

Cope

I want to watch it all fall until it's dark,
You both look exactly the same at night
I'd arrange the bed like crosses, watched them fall into the floor
Made me stop and forget what we were fighting for
It's like everything that I ever have imagined's coming true today

There is a cost, my friends
Of living out some other dream to find the consequence
It comes and goes in seasons around here, I thought again
There's nothing left around to yield this sorry ignorance
If I do echo I hope you never see
There is no one there that's waiting after me
And I hope if there is one thing I let go it is the way that we cope

Now I hope if there is one thing that we know
From the way that you and I will wander on
And we won't become a lifeless lope that wanders round and hopes for sorrow

And I know!
I know!
I know! Know!
I know!
