Before the dawn cracks
To shed light into the court
The Son of God stands bound
Before the elders in the dark
"I heard Him say
He could destroy the temple of the Lord
And rebuild it in just three days."
Caiaphas stood up and spoke
"Are You then the Christ?
These men have thus accused You
Speak and save Your life"
But Jesus then affirmed to be the very Son of God
Caiaphas then tore his clothes in sorrow and in rage
"You have uttered blasphemy! Do you know what this means?
You are now worthy of death! What further do we need?"
The high priest's word then sealed the sentence
Civilized discussion then dissolved into violence
Son of God incarnate
True high priest, the God-man
Is condemned by a fake high priest
Struck down by a hypocrite
The death march then began at dawn
With Pilate, the governor of the land
"It is not lawful for us to execute
This man is guilty, so lend us your hand!"
Pilate then investigated for a trace of crime
Not a single sin in the Son of God to find
"Are you not the King of the Jews?"
Jesus asked, "Is this from you or from the words of others?
You say rightly that I am a King
A King out of a kingdom that is not of this world"
Pilate's questions led him nowhere
"I find no guilt in this man"
"If there is one man you may release for Passover
Will it be the King of the Jews?"
"We want Barabbas!"
Crown of thorns for the King of kings
Forty lashes to the One who never sinned
Mockery and violence for the Word who's always true
Preparing execution for the King of the Jews
Was it not necessary that the Christ suffer these things?
"Behold the man"
When the chief priests and the scribes
Saw the Son of God before their midst
They called for crucifixion for His claims
"We have a law
Anyone who calls himself the son of God
Is worthy of nothing but death!"
"Would you have me crucify your King?
Is His innocence worth anything?"
Pilate feared that Jesus' words were true
But he had more fear of what they'd do
Perceiving that a riot would ensue
Heard a shocking statement from the Jews
"We have no king, but Caesar!"
"Crucify Him!"
"Crucify Him!"
"Crucify Him!"
"Crucify Him!"
"Crucify Him!"
Accused of conspiracy
There was no choice but to decree
The death of Christ
As Caesar's trustee
Was it not necessary that the Christ suffer these things?
From there, they moved to kill their King
To crucify Him on the tree
They marched Him up to Calvary
Where they tied down and nailed their King
For us all, the King of all must die to cleanse our souls from sin and lawlessness
It was foretold by the prophets of old that the Christ must suffer all these things
