Ma in the kitchen baking bread
Baby fast asleep in the bed
Sis in her nightgown plays with her doll
Brother fetches water from the well
Pa is out working in the field
Tries to earn enough from this days' yield
Sun beating down there's sweat on his brow
Ma rings the bell supper's it's ready now
As they sit down they thank the Lord
For all they're given
Milk and wine is poured
Belly's are full it's time for sleep
Pa gets the money jar to count his keep
Farm life was tough just to survive
They scrimped and scraped to stay alive
Sis dances jigs to make Pa smile
They don't have much but they're good for the while
Sitting by the fire now the night's gone cold
Pa tells stories from days of old
Takes his fiddle plays one more song
Kids are weary now, it won't be long
Ma in her nightie holds Pa in her arms
Blows out the lantern and turns on her charms
Day is over
A new dawn will come
They're all together that's more than some
Farm life was tough they didn't have a lot
Simple living was all they got
Values were strong hard work their rule
The farm was all they knew
