Growing up here things were kinda funny
There's a certain way to live when you coming from my country
Parents real strict they would come in and bug me
Telling me to turn off Nintendo n go study
Study hard to be a doctor or a judge
Pretty much pick a profession that I don't love
It's all love so I do what I can
Used to make my mom mad shes like pull up your pants
But the baggy clothes made me feel cool as a fan
Now I look back Damm how stupid I am
Was a meanie like leave me alone I'm watching tv
You wouldn't wanna see me when I turn into a demon
Growing up here things were kinda funny
My pops real strict he wasn't born in this country
Never played everyday serious face
To him sleeping all day was a serious waste
He would say all you do is just sleep and play
Plus he never was in tune with American ways
So lemme just say
There was never throwing away
All the rice and the beans and the food on my plate
Not finishing your food to him was just nonsense
I'm creepin thru the kitchen trynna hide it in the garbage
No matter what you do its your fault you'll be in trouble
Any African that you meet well he ya uncle
When you come into our home we make you feel at home
I hate when they always ask hey where you going
But we gotta family tree that's so deep
Big heart and they humble as hell but so cheap
We work til we die and I think it's outrageous
We never take days off to have a vacation
You'll never understand all the stuff we were facing
Being born here to avoid immigration
