Joe Thompson - It's OK Lyrics

Hello everyone, I'm Joe, and I wrote, recorded, produced
Made all these songs from my bedroom
And for whatever reason you've decided to take some time out of your life to actually listen to them
And, that is absolutely mind blowing to me, but, it means the absolute world
And this isn't really a song it's more of a monologue, but
I wrote it when I was in a really bad place, but, it helped me get through it so I hope you enjoy

It's ok to not feel good enough
Really, it is
To feel down, low, somber, like a coke without any fizz
Even if you thrive from dawn till die you'll always be left wanting more
You'll be sitting awake at night thinking of opportunities left knocking at your door
And you may fall in love
And they might not love you back
And even if they do they just might leave and that could be the end of all of that
That race that you ran? Thousands ran it quicker
So what's the point of going through thick when you know it just leads to thicker

It's ok to not feel good on days we're our best
So quickly reminded that we're just like the rest
Just tell yourself it's ok, a mantra in your head
It's ok to be down, and to wish you were dead
Yes It's ok to have days where you cry
Cause where can pain go if it's just on the inside
18, I had a business, I should of been proud
But I wasn't, I hated it, can that be allowed?

It's ok to not feel good enough, I know that I don't
Don't try change my mind, cos believe me, I won't
I know I should feel lucky in this society we've built
Yet all that does daily is just fill me with guilt
There's people that can't afford to live yet I'm sad
We're blowing up children like it's some kind of fad
We live in a country with an abundance of wealth
Yet I sit and complain, you can't sustain your own health

It's ok to not feel good enough, you've had thoughts that are twisted
They didn't stick around but the marks on your wrist did
Live in a country with sad people in abundance
But get in the queue cos mental health cares underfunded
They'll put you on a pill, send you on your way
Kick you out the doctors with nothing left to say
Because you live in a country that treats you like dirt
You can't get out of bed yet you still have to work

It's ok to not feel good enough
In fact you're probably not
There's 7 billion people, who cares about you, so what
We're a generation that asked to perform, yet when I go on social media I'm just feeling forlorn
Likes, texts, tweets, posts, selfies and vlogs
You smile for the camera, but off it there's sobs
Go out with a couple, use the hashtag third wheel
300 posts on instagram but how do you feel
You see we're the generation that's never satisfied
The children who are kind of empty on the inside
We go online to get some sort of self validation, but there's no purpose there, there's no reason for it

It's ok to not feel good enough
In fact no it's not
I've made the wrong point and I've made it a lot
So don't listen to me, don't listen to a word that I say, because it's not ok, it's not ok, it's not ok
We're cultivated from birth to feel like we're worthless
7 Billion humans, none of us deserve this
See none of us deserve to feel low, and I don't know much but there's one thing I do know
See, everyone I've ever met has been entirely unique and has their own unique take
On the day to day to day to day
And whether you're a millionaire celebrity or someone working a minimum wage job in a place you hate
Everyone has their own individual problems, people are so quick to assume
And to judge other people but the fact is whether you have the most secure lifestyle and finances in the world
Nothing can stop you from how you feel
And it feels like we're becoming increasingly divided on religion, on politics, on race
The fact is we all share the unique burden of life, and part of that burden is that we all feel down sometimes
So it's not ok to not feel good enough, but sometimes we all just do anyway
