How do you
Make me feel human
As if I've always been
For I've only felt
Like an object
Made to be inanimate
Oh I've only ever been
A body on the shelf
Asking permission
Just to be myself
So when you came along
And you said
You want to know
Who I am
I told you use your imagination
And then you can
I know that's not what
You asked of me
You want to know
The mind behind my body
But if I'm being honest
I don't know who they are
Oh no one's ever asked
For my heart
Why would you want
The most broken part
When I've only ever been
A body on the shelf
Asking permission
Just to be myself
So when you came along
And you said
You want to know
Who I am
So I told you to
Use your imagination
And then you can
And so you came to me
With needle and thread
As I prepared for the worst
Expecting the stitching
Of your idea
I waited for it hurt
But what you did next
It surprised me
Pulling gently at my seams
You found everything
That was broken
And stitched me up carefully
So when I'd only ever been
A body on the shelf
Asking permission
Just to be myself
You came along
And you said
You don't need an imagination
Because you love
When I animate who I am
So can I learn
How to animate who I am
