The Possumbilities Are Endless

I asked my daddy, ""Tell me, what will I become?""
He said, ""Don't worry now, my most impatient son
There's so much time ahead,
And many years to grow.
But I've got a few ideas if you really want to know""
You could be an artist
And make beauty for the world
And paint your love in many hues
You could be a teacher
And help everyone to learn
There's still time for you to choose
You could be a doctor or a nurse or EMT
And save a life most every day
You could be a dancer
If you're graceful on your feet
But there's still time for you to play.
I asked my mama, ""Tell me, what am I to do?""She said ""Don't worry now,
Your sister asked me, too
There's so much time ahead
You shouldn't worry now
But I've got a few ideas
That you both can think about""
You could be an architect
With big blueprints and plans
Designing houses for the poor
You could be a singer in a big old country band
Who could wish for any more?
You could be a driver of a cab or bus or truck
Behind the wheel you'd be so brave
You could be a soldier
And help defend the fort
But there's still time for you to play.
We asked our Grammy then,
""Oh, what will we become?""She said ""Don't worry now,
Our favorite little ones.""
Then gramps just laughed and said
""I know you'll both do fine
But we've got a few ideas if you really need a sign""
You could be a scientist
We sure would be in awe
You could be a pilot in a plane
You could be a builder
With a hammer and a saw
Or police the streets most every day
You could be a farmer
And grow food for everyone
Or put out fires and keep us safe
You could be a chef
Who wears the tallest, whitest hat
But there's still time for you to play.
I asked my sister ""Tell me, what will we become?""She smiled and took my hand,
And then the other one
""We've so much time ahead
So many things to see
I think right now the perfect thing is being you ... and being me.""
