Gottlieb - Waiting Room Lyrics

Gottlieb - Waiting Room Lyrics
Official

Hit me like a pinch of Narcan flushing the brain
I sat up in a fright from my mothers lap
Meeting calm concern of a stranger's gaze
The cushioned impact of a fallout nap
My breath struggled and my heart skipped
As my mother caressed the fear from my face
I remember a painting of sailing ship
As the panicked tunnel vision began to dilate
And these strangers cooed my fears in a waiting room, trading
Rumors on the doctor confident as the truth
A pragmatist mechanic? Or a method of hex
Stab blindly in the dark about what comes next
A middle aged woman tapped an armrest impatient
And she preached about his practice as if it were magic
And though she doesn't know him, said her husband does
The two had grown close when he left her his orphans
She told us her appointment was at half past noon
Though at 9:15, she expected him soon
Then the door floated open and she stood up tall
With a look of expectation, she answered his call
Across the coffee table were remains of a man
Maybe that's too harsh; I'm just saying he's old
The blueish sprawling veins were like snakes in his hand
Slumped up in his seat and reading Rolling Stone
He told me that he'd met this doctor before
He was cruel and unjust, and corrupted by the war
In spite of all his gripings it appeared they were friends
When his time in this waiting room came to an end
And these strangers cooed my fears in a waiting room, trading
Rumors on the doctor confident as the truth
A pragmatist mechanic? Or a method of hex
Stab blindly in the dark about what comes next
And I didn't know that I'd made an appointment
When the room emptied down to me and my mom,
I asked her confused: Mom, what're we waiting for
Are we sick? Something hurts. What's behind the door
She kept behind her magazine and flipped through the pages
I've never met this doctor, but I'm sure he's fine
Then I saw her tears. Her brow had been aging
The best that we can do is be brave at our time
As she checked her watch, the door opened and called her
I love you Roo. I'll see you at your time with the doctor
She closed the magazine. She stood in the light
Then my mama walked toward it til she blurred out of sight
Mama, what are we waiting for
Mama, what are we waiting for
Mama, what are we waiting for
Mama, what are we waiting for
I strayed away in waves, a cliched picture
An out of touch, poorly painted ship captain
Arrogance facing abyss
Hanging in waiting in a doctor's office
And I can't help but think
As I wait here alone
Of the brave-face veiled upon the face of my mom
I hope I can say more
When I walk through the door
And I finally find out
What I'm waiting here for
