Winter Birds

It doesn't seem that long ago, we first walked through this door
And the sounds of love and laughter once made this house warm
Now the only sounds are the echoes of my footsteps in the hall
And there's a chill that hangs inside these empty walls
And lately I am finding out, how loneliness sounds
So I turn on the radio, to drown the silence out
I never dreamed the time we had would have to end
And It's so hard to face this truth as it begins
The world I've known is gone, everything has changed
I guess I saw it coming, nothing ever stays the same
The ruthless wheel of time devours everything I've known
Like a flock of winter birds, that have taken wing and flown
The winter faded fast, leaves on trees begin to grow
The warm spring breeze is welcome, as it blows away the cold
But with everything that's new, something old is lost
And with everything we lose there is a cost
The world I've known is gone, everything has changed
I guess I saw it coming, nothing ever stays the same
The ruthless wheel of time devours everything I've known
Like a flock of winter birds, that have taken wing and flown
