The Autumn of This Life

I found a picture in a drawer today
And it reminded me of my old home
I've been anchored in harbor way up stream
And it feels so all alone
As tomorrow becomes today, and possibilities are slipping away
The lure of that road, grows stronger every day
Sometimes people just don't understand,
When commitments rule out any other plans
But my longing runs deep... It's just out of my hands
When I rode into the sunset long ago
There was no way that I could have known
That the cost of my travels was all I ever owned
Passing time can be unkind, it will brittle your bones and dull your mind
Your best laid plans, can come undone
When reality bites and you're out of time
We must accept what is and just move on
And hope that somehow things fall in place
The Autumn of this life ain't been easy,
But it's something that we've got to face
Of all the things that I've gotten wrong,
One of them wasn't you
This wasn't the plan, but here we are
And most of our dreams came true
But we hit a wall, and some things went wrong
But what are we gonna' to do?
We'll just carry the pieces that are falling apart
And do the best that we can do
Passing time can be unkind, it will brittle your bones and dull your mind
Your best laid plans, can come undone
When reality bites and you're out of time
We must accept what is and just move on
And hope that somehow things fall in place
The Autumn of this life ain't been easy,
But it's something that we've got to face
