Our Life Story

When I woke up this morning, I had a dream still on my mind
I saw you standing at the end of rainbow,
No more tears in your eyes
I could hear the sweet music and laughter,
Through a window looking back into time
When we sat under the shade of those old oak trees
Looking up to the sky
Happiness was easy we still had that gleam in our eyes
We always knew we would make it, didn't seem like we had to try
We had it good for a while, but every step started taking a toll
It seemed the harder we worked, the higher the tax on our souls
There was joy in life's simplicity,
Back before there were all these demands
We never dreamed that things could have changed
The way that they have, we had a method to our madness
And the trail that we blazed was hard
I would not have guessed our life story
Would bring us this far
Before I met you I'd been a traveler,
I never stayed anywhere too long
Drifting one stop to another, I was always alone
There were a thousand places you could have been
But fate put you right in my way
And now all these years later I still call it my lucky day
There was joy in life's simplicity,
Back before there were all these demands
We never dreamed that things could have changed
The way that they have, we had a method to our madness
And the trail that we blazed was hard
I would not have guessed our life story
Would bring us this far
