[ Featuring Rani Whitehead ]
There is a vision I have where my skin stays brown under hot sun
Walls are sky blue and pink and yellow
My eyes brighten and my hair never stops growing long long long
Like my dreams of walking cobblestone streets as the air fills my nose with the smell of warm night air and my body is laden with turquoise and obsidian
Single red ruby lays on finger
Flowers embroidered across landscape rich in cultural rituals of dance and laughter and song and rejoicing of tribes of family
My dreams awaken me to this clarity of who I am and for where my heart has been longing as my true form has been in slumber all this time fighting crawling her wild thing out from under the heavy and itchy starched fabric of no thank you
I no longer want to be beholden to customs that don't sing beneath my skin and where I'm not adorned in animal bones and stones from the earth
Where the song of antelope and hawk and feral dog have no voice along the lines of history that mark the journey my feet take
Take me home sweet mother
Take me to your churches your temples your sacred ground where I may fall to my knees and kiss your fingers that stretch me far and wide into my own song of birth
Let me climb upon your back and feel your spine press between my legs as my knees squeeze and grip you with longing and need
Let me lay across your belly my belly pressed to your soft your strong your electricity biting me from above
Lead me deeper into this dream of my true life this place I know of I have been here and I'm coming for you
Just a little longer now
I move this body into a thickening that will bring more birth of surprise and blessing and god who knew just who really knew what the earth truly feels like pressed into your pores
Like suffocation and full breath this duality of all of life coexisting within your mounds
As I carry it
This dream filled with pure pigment and magic and possibility on the road I witness from states divide so real I can smell it
I can smell the sugar on the streets the coffee the lemon trees and my skin darkening into oh take me home sweet mama
Take me home
Lay me across your bed so inviting so lush with the sounds that lull me to sleep that awaken me to my spirit soaring
Oh and she does soar here
High above the steeples and the clouds and the rainfall
Overlooking the homes and the people that laugh and cry and repent and suffer and moan in ecstasy and their sounds are my medicine and my medicine is their earth rich soil and the words written on the inside of my mouth
I have this vision where the vibrant colors call me home and I answer the call and my skin darkens in the sun and I forever kneel in prayer to the gift of it all
