All night the heavens wept
Across a gleaming empty sky
Outcast and doomed you and I
Alone, beyond all love or hate
Terror tears and AND triumph, were there to wait
Too late I've won a lover but lost a saint
You and I ankle deep in love or hate
Throw darts and kisses beside the unseen tide of fate
And from a distance came the grumble of a midnight train
A hundred thousand miles we sway
Tossing and turning on the eternal plain
Love passes on, and leaves no trace
For darkness knows its holy place
Upon my crimson cushioned seat
I lay transfixed light and heat
The gracious gift of night
Away from sound away from sight
Leaning down the sky
Shed peace and gentle dreams
What precious secret is our fate
Roams the hills tonight
And we rush forth to give him fight
Perhaps a woman waits in pain
And listens quietly
Listens quietly for the train!
All night the heavens wept
