Empty pockets, empty dreams
Life ain't what it seems
Workin' hard, barely survivin'
Soul slowly shrivin'
Alarm screams at 5, another day begins
Same old grind, same old sins
Coffee's weak, bread's stale
Livin' life on a rusty rail
They say money can't buy happiness
But let me tell you somethin'
Poverty sure can steal it
When you're countin' pennies
And the bills keep pilin'
Survival becomes your only song
No time for love
No time for laughter
Chasin' dollars
Is all that matters
Boss man says, "Climb that ladder"
But every rung I reach
My hopes just scatter
Minimum wage
Maximum pain
Squeezin' blood from stone
Again and again and again...
See my baby's eyes
Full of wonder and light
Wanna give her the world
But my wallet's wound too tight
How long before her light starts to dim?
How long can we live on society's whim?
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Work, sleep, repeat, it's all a blur
Friday, Saturday, Sunday too
When you're poor, the days just chew through you
Shadows growin' day by day
Can't shake 'em, can't make 'em go away
Dreams on a shelf, too high to reach
While I'm stuck here, life's out of reach
Is this all we're livin' for?
Just work and sleep and nothin' more?
Gotta be more to life than this
A chance to taste sweet freedom's kiss
You know, folks, they talk about the American Dream
But for some of us, it's more like an American Scream
Wakin' up every day, facin' the same old fight
Just tryin' to make it through the night
But I won't let these shadows steal all my light
Gonna break these chains, gonna win this fight
Stand together, raise our voice
Demand a system where we have a choice
'Cause we're more than our empty pockets
More than the hours we clock in
We're dreamers, we're fighters, we're human beings
And it's time the world started seeing
The shadows may be long, but our spirit's strong
Together we'll right this wrong
Brighter days are comin', yes they are
If we stand as one, we'll go far
Shadows of struggle. fadin' away
