I don't see much in some of those dusty old books anymore
So many i'm prob'ly never readin twice
But the idea that us humans finding ourselves living the high life in a garden paradise
Would soon seize the knowledge to ruin it all and seal our own doom
It might not be factual some parts are messed up but these days in some ways it rings true
This story of one lover carelessly sharing the sweetest deadliest fruit with the other
Yeah that's love in pre-apocalyptic times
Think of charles the guard in the opening scene of the stand
Calamity strikes mere seconds for him to decide
And if i had to choose between saving the world and just saving you
I'd be screaming down the 93 with you on the passenger side
Well i doubt that i'll ever face such a stark choice as an average joe
And i know it's just fiction that some guy made up but i'm sure that that's how it would go
A story of one lover recklessly abandoning duty to rescue the other
Yeah that's love in pre-apocalyptic times
What if these stories are serious oversimplifications?
What if it's not some either or situation?
What if the trees of life and the trees of knowing
Are the very same trees as the trees of love we've been growing?
Forests full of stories of lovers tending this garden and healing the world for each other
This has to be love in pre-apocalyptic times
This has to be love in these pre-apocalyptic times
This has to be love in these pre-apocalyptic times
