Verse 1 Everybody learns to read,
Succeeding on the whole.
Different schemes are used
To guide our kids towards this goal.
Two are still held in high regard
By older generations.
Teachers drove their pupils hard,
Exceeding expectations!
Chorus Janet and John, Peter and Jane,
Taught us to read, then taught us again!
Times we remember with fondness and joy.
Pink for a girl and blue for a boy!
Verse 1 Books were 'themed' and used 'Key Words',
Repeated through... and through!
So traditional, no offence,
And very proper too!
Girls were all seen to cook and clean
And stay at home with Mummy.
Boys helped Daddy and played ball -
Today that seems quite funny!
Chorus Janet and John....
Verse 3 Tales that served us very well
Came from a bygone age.
Scintillating sentences
Graced every single page!
'Here is the cat. Jane likes the cat.'
'But Peter does not, sadly.'
'That was that - the cat went splat!'
They don't all end so badly!!
Chorus Janet and John....X2
