Eddie Clark - Differences Lyrics

Hey

I don't usually speak on this but uh
I think it's about that time

Coming at you live from the 404
Where blacks are still feeling the aftershock of Jim Crow
Confederates galore ain't no point in even hiding it
Supporting slavery cause they ancestors really died for it
Imagine having relations with one of their daughters
Respect these women but that don't matter to none of they fathers
You cool, but family convos make it hard for you keep it
Daddy don't play dating blacks so the relationships a secret
And daddy taught her young so that racism is ingrained
She rebelling cause she different, now that bond they have is strained
The Bible says you train up a child and they won't turn from it
So when she eventually cuts you off, you just learn from it
On the flip side yall are interracially entwined
And that love that you two shared, went and birthed a healthy child
But that baby's being bullied because they're mixed
This could very well be my niece the thought just makes me sick
My pops said it all wont end till after we gone
And after she gone, man is that what we on
I'm out here tryna live my life and keep my faith intact
But it's hard when people pulling you back and that's a fact

I'll never understand why they persecute us
It's hard to walk in faith when we know cops can shoot us
And get away
Like it's okay
Change probably won't come till long after I decay
What will it take for us to love thru all our differences
I hope and pray that one day we will find deliverance

Yeah

Don't wanna make it seem like I don't love them anyway
Despite the way they treat us hate ain't in my DNA
We all bleed the same
I plead the name in hopes that one day they would see the same
This ain't a game this is real life
They think less of us cause our pigment
Then claim they ain't a bigot when we know they feel indifferent
It's sad that just and righteous verdicts are a figment and they tell us we can't kneel when their decisions make us livid
Uh
No holding back no more it's out in the open
Got all these black on black attacks cause we broken
Ain't no pops in the home
What would you do when there no male love shown
And you only got it when you put the chrome to a dome
Father help us
We just wanna have equal opportunities
To help this country grow
We got a long way to go
Perceived to be greatest nation far as people know
But they only see the surface take a look at what's below

I'll never understand why they persecute us
It's hard to walk in faith when we know cops can shoot us
And get away
Like it's okay
Change probably won't come till long after I decay
What will it take for us to love thru all our differences
I hope and pray that one day we will find deliverance

That's all I ever want
That's all I ever want for us
That's all I ever want

That's all I ever want
That's all I ever want for us
That's all I ever want
