Went out one time in the dead of night
Didn't come home til the sun was bright
Looked out a the lake in front of my eyes
Reflection of the trees they can tell no lie
And as I walk these trails like the back of my hand
Time lays still and I have no plan
Except to stay and listen to the whistling wind
And recall a time but I don't know when
Well I'd rather be here than any city I know
In the peace and calm and the winter snow
In the summer in the shade with my head held high
I can tell by the shadow it's just you and I
Looking at the path down below my feet
Finding my way through these evergreen trees
Where I will end up nobody may know
But I'll find my way home through my tracks in the snow
On my face in the eve I can feel suns glow
At the end of the day nowhere else to go
So I'll sit on a rock and sing out a tune
And tell this story to my child one day very soon
