Sing was released as a digital download on April 7th, 2014,
as the lead single for Ed Sheeran's sophomore album, x.
(The album title is actually pronounced 'multiply.')
It features production and additional
vocals from Pharrell Williams.
The song owes a lot to Justin Timberlake. "It was pretty close to a direct inspiration,"
Sheeran told Billboard. "I love Justified and FutureSex/LoveSounds, so I took inspiration from those."
The song was inspired by a girl that Sheeran met in Las Vegas in the summer of 2013, when
"one thing led to another and now she's kissing my mouth." After the events described in
the song, the two went out for sushi.

The music video for Sing was released exclusively to Sheeran's Facebook page
on May 22nd, 2014, and added to Vevo and YouTube on May 23rd, exactly a month
before the album was released.
It follows a puppet caricature of Sheeran
on a night out, during which he gets drunk, sings karaoke, goes to a
strip club and picks up Sheeran and the song's producer, Pharrell,
from a studio in his truck. Sheeran has stated that he owns
the puppet in the video, but has "no idea how to work it yet".
