DRAE - Sleep Lyrics

SLEEP
By DRAE
Written by Andre Thibault

(Verse 1)

We're sleepwalking through the killing floor
Now can you tell me what you're living for?
No? Oh, you don't like me? Have I struck a chord?
Well if you think I'm in my feelings you've been ill informed
See I'm that wildfire that you can't ignore
Now get up, sound the alarm, I'm wide awake and bored
Look, it's getting harder just to stay the course
It's always those who've got the most who tell me less is more

Welcome to generation woe-is-me
Where people change and nothing's ever as it's supposed to be
Cell phones with broken screens resemble hopes and dreams
Or so it seems this is social revelation poetry
We contradict Holy philosophy
Beg for forgiveness as we're running from this self-fulfilling prophecy
But even still there's no apologies, I'm dying cross-less
Live agnostic but demand that God acknowledge me

(Chorus)

Can I get some sleep tonight
I need some peace Lord
I've been so tired for so long
Sleep is the cousin of death
(x2)

(Verse 2)

Now what's the real objective?
What's the message that we're spreading as we permeate this culture of oppression?
We're so blinded by our self-obsession
Priority becomes acceptance and we shy away from genuine affection
Look, every breath and every word we speak's a deadly weapon
Truth is treason, honesty carries a heavy sentence
People take offense to good intentions, play pretend and stay pretentious
It's all around you if you pay attention

(Chorus)

Can I get some sleep tonight
I need some peace Lord
I've been so tired for so long
Sleep is the cousin of death
(x2)

(Solo)

(BridgeChorus)

Can I get some sleep tonight
I need some peace Lord
I've been so tired for so long
Sleep is the cousin of death
(x4)
