Our class took a trip abroad to France
My family had never had the chance
My mum looked a little nervous as I packed
Rebecca sat by me on the bus
She shared sweets with the girls in front of us
She knows that I would never take her up
Our classmates all had something to say
About the girl that they met on the first day
She never described me in that way
Our host family tried to speak the best English they could
Made me take my insulin exactly when I should
Sleeping at Rebecca's house was too good to be true
If I had a low Rebecca's mum knew what to do
Her mum knew what to do
We went to a restaurant as a class
The kind that you pay for in advance
Injection, and the waiter came at last
Disaster, we never saw the food
What happened, we never understood
I shivered, I wasn't feeling good
Our parents hadn't given us much cash
The shaking and the dizziness hit fast
I know now that those Euros were her last
The doctors only ask me if I know what happens next
Rebecca meets my gaze and knows to ask what's happening
Not much of a meal we shared in Normandy that day
A pack of sweets and something else that I can't quite explain
I can't quite explain
Rebecca
