Last night I had a vision,
A dream so strange and clear
I stood in old Jerusalem,
And heaven felt so near
I heard the children singing,
A song of peace they sang
A choir from every corner of
The world in answer rang
A choir from every corner of
The world in answer rang:
Refain:
Jerusalem! Jerusalem!
Lift up your gates, give birth
To freedom and justice
You, mother of peace on earth
But then my dream turned sorrowful,
No distant echo rang
Hushed were the words of justice
The little children sang
The gates were closed, between the humble homes
Grey walls grew high
While shadows cast by weapons fell
Like crosses from the sky,
While shadows cast by weapons fell
Like crosses from the sky
Refrain:
Jerusalem! Jerusalem!
Lift up your gates, give birth
To freedom and justice
You, mother of peace on earth
And once again the scene was changed
So unexpectedly
I saw the Holy City
Where everyone was free
I saw the rainbow's sign of old,
God's silent, peaceful guide
And all who would might enter,
And no one was denied
No need of checkpoints, walls or guards,
No need to flee or hide
It was the new Jerusalem
Where gates were open wide,
Where people from each faith on earth
In peace lived side by side
Refrain:
Jerusalem! Jerusalem!
Lift up your gates and sing,
To God, Lord of justice!
Receive what peace may bring!
