There's only so much a man can take
When he's put in a box and he tries not to break
One more loss, one more mistake
One more day riding the King Snake
But I know I'll take it better
When we get down in that sunny southern weather
And find some downtime
I paint my pictures in black and white
Nude octagons on the beach at midnight
Either way, I never get it right
Still seeing your silhouette in the candlelight
But I know I'll paint it better
When we get down in that sunny southern weather
And find some downtime
Downtime to do what I please
Downtime put my mind at ease
Sun on my face and feet in the sand
Need a little room to find out who I am
A voice in my head knows the thing to do
It mumbles and plays the 16-bar blues
Add all the static and not much gets through
So I'll keep strumming and listening for you
But I know I'll hear it better
When we get down in that sunny weather
I'm no believer but I sometimes pray
In case there's a heaven someday
