The Common Loon - Grand Overture Lyrics

The Common Loon - Grand Overture Lyrics

It all started in my parent's basement back in '96
With our amps turned up and Jesse counting in with his sticks
Me and Tara played guitar and we fell in love singing our songs
And of course Jeremy and Christy were playing along

Now we really weren't that good, but we were pretty damn good for our age
Even got on the radio and we played a few times on the stage
Then we got a little older, and we broke up the band
We were going different places and we had different plans

Tara graduated and we went to college in the city
We studied all the art and we learned about how to be free
Living in Chicago is a great way to see the whole world
With all the different cultures and music and neighborhoods

I liked riding on the Brown Line to visit you at your school
You'd come down on the weekends, to my apartment in the loop
Where we kept on playing music and recording it on four-track
Even made a couple albums, before we moved up to the Mac
And let me tell you 'bout the Mac baby!

And it was all about the music
That's what keeps me struggling on
There's just something about the music
And writing that song

Then we got married
Then we said I do
Then we got married baby
We started something new

As children we are told, " You can make it if you follow your dreams"
But it really only works if your dream involves making money
So we took a couple jobs in a nice little Iowa town
We'd work all through the day and at night we'd work on our sounds

I liked playing on the bass guitar to accompany your new songs
Remember all the friends that came to our album party all night long
Now we're back with a brand new sound, and we recorded it just for you
And Jesse's playin' on the drums again, and he's singing harmony too
And let me hear ya play the drums, Jesse

This is all about the music
That's what keeps us struggling on
There's a power in the music
For rightin' that wrong

Now you know our story
We'll get on with our tunes
Just one last thing to tell you baby
Now we're The Common Loon
