Cody Johnson - Ain't Nothin' to It Lyrics

Ain Nothin To It

Same old scenario
One guy's young and one guy's old
One's in love and sittin' on gold
And one's already walked that road
One's on year number 33
And one just bought that diamond ring
One says "Dad, so how'd you do it?"
The other just laughs and says "There ain't nothin' to it"

Just try to quit smokin' and reel back the drinkin'
Don't always tell her everything you're thinkin'
And dance her when she needs dancin'
You get up and go to work, get up and go to church
Crawl up in that bed right next to her and listen
Instead of having all the answers
Then he slapped him on the back and said
"Son, you can do it, there ain't nothin' to it"

There'll be trouble along the way
Words will fly and dishes break
The baby comes in and money goes out
You will learn to ride the ups and downs
You'll wanna quit a million times
But if you hang on, the years unwind
And when you get to see your blushing bride
Turn a beautiful at 35, or 45, or 55

You'll be glad you quit smokin' and reeled back the drinkin'
Didn't always tell her everything you were thinkin'
And danced her when she needed dancin'
You got up and went to work, got up and went to church
Crawled up in that bed right next to her and listened
Instead of having all the answers
It's only love and all of us go through it
And if I had it to do again you know I'd do it
There ain't nothin' to it
Naw, there ain't nothin' to it

Noise

I can hear those trucks on the highway tonight
I can hear those kids down the block playin' ball
I can hear the drone of my boss in my head
Sayin' "This weekend I need you on call"
The volume's up, the pressure's on, the phone is buzzin'
You're the only reason that I don't go crazy

'Cause when we kiss, the world outside is gone
And whatever lonely there is moves on
My heart doesn't have any choice
When I hear my name on your voice
Everything else, everything else is just noise

Your eyes cut through every distraction
Through the rage of the machine and the roar of the engines
This rock keeps turning, this city don't sleep
You're my secret shelter when I can't find peace
The way you touch, the way you whisper
Way you love and how it lingers
You can make it all go away

'Cause when we kiss, the world outside is gone
And whatever lonely there is moves on
My heart doesn't have any choice
When I hear my name on your voice
Everything else, everything else is just noise

'Cause when we kiss, the world outside is gone
And whatever lonely there is moves on
My heart doesn't have any choice
When I hear my name on your voice
Everything else, everything else is just noise
Everything else is just noise

Fenceposts

You've always said that you'd love to live out here
Where you can smell the morning glories in the air
That sun shining through that crystal blue sure looks good on you

Can't you just see a drive winding up that hill
Leading to a house with flowers on a window sill
It might take a while to clear this land
But I've got a plan

Don't tell your mama yet, I'm begging you
Don't tell your daddy 'til the paperwork goes through
When the time is right we'll let em know
Right now it's between you, and me, and these here fenceposts

Don't worry 'bout the money, got a couple things I can sell
Mr. Fuller down the road could always use some help
Whatever it takes, I'll go that extra mile if it makes you smile, so

Don't tell your mama yet, I'm begging you
Don't tell your daddy 'til the paperwork goes through
When the time is right we'll let em know
Right now it's between you, and me, and these here fenceposts

Ain't nobody 'round to see us now
Wha'do'ya say we lay a blanket down
Anything that happens, baby, when we get this close
Stays between you, and me, and these here fenceposts

You've always said that you'd love to live out here

Understand Why

I wish I had a third floor motel room
On the dark side of the moon
Up there with the satellites in the sky
If you knew anything about her, you'd understand why
I used to believe in love
And all that forever stuff
But now I'm startin' to think it was one big lie
If you knew anything about her, you'd understand why

She's a sea wall on the coast in stormy weather
She's that C22, go-to jukebox song
I had small town dreams of us together
But now she's gone

I don't dance with 90 proof
Or smoke weed like I used to
But right now I sure could use the high
If you knew anything about her, you'd understand why, yeah

Yeah she's that sea wall on the coast in stormy weather
She's that C22, go-to jukebox song
I had small town dreams of us together
But now she's gone

I wish I had a third floor motel room
On the dark side of the moon
Up there with the satellites in the sky
If you knew anything about her, you'd understand why
If you knew anything about her
You'd understand why

Long Haired Country Boy

People say I ain't no good
And I'm crazy as a loon
'Cause I get stoned in the mornin'
And I get drunk in the afternoon
I'm kinda like my old bluetick hound
I like to lay around in the shade
I ain't got no money
But I damn sure got it made

And I ain't askin' nobody for nothin'
If I can't get it on my own
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
Just leave this long haired country boy alone

Well I say the preacher man talkin' on TV
Was puttin' down rock 'n' roll
He wants me to send a donation
'Cause he's worried about my soul
He said Jesus walked on the water
And y'all know that this is true
Well sometimes I think that ol' preacher man
Sure'd like to do a little walkin' too

'Cause I ain't askin' nobody for nothin'
Yeah, if I can't get it on my own
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
Just leave this long haired country boy alone

(Oh, here goes)

Well I said the poor girl wants to marry
And the rich girl wants to flirt
The rich boys went off to college
And all of us poor boys came to work
The drunkard wants another drink of wine
And the politician wants your vote
And me I don't want much of nothin' at all
But I will take another toke

But I ain't askin' nobody for nothin'
Yeah, if I can't get it on my own
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
Just leave this long haired country boy alone

Well I said, I said
If you don't like it how I'm livin'
Just leave this long haired country boy alone

Get 'em boys

Nothin On You

Wearing your black dress, red shoes
Makeup, perfume, and diamonds
You always impress, turn heads
The second you walk through the door
You're like a real life work of fine art
Baby, you're priceless
And I just wanna get home, get that black dress down on the floor

'Cause when you got nothin' on
There ain't nothin' wrong
Lovin' you all night long's all I wanna do
I've seen the mountains high
I've sailed the ocean blue
But when you got nothin' on
Ain't nothin' got nothin' on you

You're better than Venice, Vegas, New York, LA, Paris
Baby, you're Vermont in the fall
The Grand Canyon on a full moon
Oh and they can keep those high rise, high priced mansions
I wouldn't trade places
Long as I'm here with you baby
I've got a room with a view

'Cause when you got nothin' on
There ain't nothin' wrong
Lovin' you all night long's all I wanna do
I've seen the mountains high
I've sailed the ocean blue
But when you got nothin' on
Ain't nothin' got nothin' on you

Yeah, 'cause I've seen the mountains high
I've sailed the ocean blue
But when you got nothin' on
Ain't nothin' got nothin' on you
When you got nothin' on, ain't nothin' got nothin' on you
Ain't nothin' got nothin' on you baby

Honky Tonk Mood

Woman left me with the blues
And I know just how I got 'em
I see a fifth of Jimmy Beam
I'm gonna drink it to the bottom
I ain't tryna hurt nobody
I ain't prone to give a damn
I got me nothin' left to lose
I'm in a honky-tonk mood

I'm in a honky-tonk mood
That's where I'll be all night
If anybody's lookin' for me
Look for a neon light, oh
I'll be playin' here tonight
And then I'll play again tomorrow
I got a whiskey attitude
I'm in a honky-tonk mood

If I get to gettin' loud
Don't you worry 'bout it, boys
'Cause gettin' over this heartache
Is gonna make a little noise
If I start to dancin' 'round
Don't try and pull me off the floor
I'm just a-kickin' up my boots
I'm in a honky-tonk mood

I'm in a honky-tonk mood
That's where I'll be all night
If anybody's lookin' for me
Look for a neon light, oh
I'll be playin' here tonight
And then I'll play again tomorrow
I got a whiskey attitude
I'm in a honky-tonk mood

Monday Morning Merle

Monday morning Merle
Don't worry 'bout the girl
He used to love
Tuesday he's throwback Springsteen
"Devils and Dust"

Wednesday spins the Beatles
Thursday it's the Eagles
"Take it easy"
Till that Friday rocks his world
After Saturday on Jackson Browne
He's "Sunday Morning Coming Down"
And he's right back to missin' that girl
Turns up "Misery and Gin"
Here we are again
At Monday morning Merle

Monday morning Merle
Lets that old broken heart
Get back to work
He hides all the holes and the hurt
Under the dirt on his shirt
And the only way that he can get
Through the days and the regret
Is a song full of truth
With some words he never said
With those whiskey remedies
And those old-school melodies
You can't forget

That's why on Wednesday spins the Beatles
Thursday it's the Eagles
"Take it easy"
Till that Friday rocks his world
After Saturday on Jackson Browne
He's "Sunday Morning Coming Down"
And he's right back to missin' that girl
Turns up "Misery and Gin"
Here we are again
At Monday morning Merle

Wednesday spins the Beatles
Thursday it's the Eagles
"Take it easy"
Till that Friday rocks his world
After Saturday on Jackson Browne
He's "Sunday Morning Coming Down"
And he's right back to missin' that girl
Turns up "Misery and Gin"
Here we are again
At Monday morning Merle

That's just "The way I am"
"Sing me back home again"
To Monday morning Merle
Monday morning Merle

Yall People (Dedicated to the "CoJo Nation")

If anybody's gonna get a drunk tattoo and own it
If anybody's got four cinder blocks
With a fixer-upper sittin' up on it
If anybody's got a buzzin' side-door speaker
'Cause Chattahoochee done blown it
And the only thing that they don't give is a damn

It's y'all people
Talkin' with a long drawl people
Buck head on the wall people
Y'all people make a stranger feel right at home
Pour 'em up tall, people
A-come one and come all, people
If I'm gonna drink one, smoke one, tie one on
With anybody under the sun, come on
It's y'all people

If there's anybody I want out on the road when I break down
If anybody's got a string of Christmas lights that they don't take down
Need a hand, need a shovel, need a ride on the double
Don't take but a minute, they're way down
If there's anybody I wished there was just a few more of

It's y'all people
Talkin' with a long drawl people
Buck head on the wall people
Y'all people make a stranger feel right at home
Pour 'em up tall, people
A-come one and come all, people
If I'm gonna drink one, smoke one, tie one on
With anybody under the sun, come on
It's y'all people

Talkin' 'bout y'all people
Football in the fall people
We grew up on McGraw people
Y'all people, yeah

That's right, it's y'all people
Talkin' with a long drawl people
Buck head on the wall people
Y'all people make a stranger feel right at home
So pour 'em up tall, people
A-come one, come all, people
If I'm gonna drink one, smoke one, tie one on
With anybody under the sun, come on
It's y'all people

That's right, it's y'all people

Where Cowboys Are King

There's a dusty hat up on the dash of every truck you meet
Country roads and fence posts as far as you can see
Billboard sign says, "Rodeo, June eleven through thirteen"
When you get to town just look around for the Rusty Nail Cafe
Where the old hands sip there coffee and relive their glory days
A modern day Charlie Russell scene
Where cowboys are king

I get back there every now and then
Turn a few steers in the ropin' pen
Just a couple of days and I'm gone again
Chasin' this old six string
Oh, but I sure love to be
Where cowboys are king

Brush the horses down, turn 'em out, head over to the bar
There'll be George Strait on the jukebox, and I bet the chances are
There'll be some cowgirls in well-worn jeans
Where cowboys are king

I get back there every now and then
Turn a few steers in the ropin' pen
Just a couple of days and I'm gone again
Chasin' this old six string
Oh, but I sure love to be
Where cowboys are king

Boys, as bad as I wish I could stay
I just hope this never goes away

So I can get back here every now and then
Turn a few steers in the ropin' pen
Spend a little time with some good old friends
Y'all make it so hard to leave
Oh, but I sure love to be
Where cowboys are king
Oh, and I sure love to be
Where cowboys are king

On My Way to You

All the boats I've missed
All the hell I've caused
All the lips I've kissed
All the love I've lost
I got kicked around
I've been black and blue
On my way to you

All the stars I've seen
All the songs I've sung
All the beers I've drank
All the damage done
I was just passin' time
Kinda just passin' through
On my way to you

Every curve, every ditch
Every turn, every bridge
I left behind me up in smoke
Every fork in the road
It was all worth the while
When I finally saw your smile
Every highway, every heartbreak
Every mountain, every mile

I got the radio up
Sun is going down
I'll take a left at the bank
And I'll head straight through town
So baby, put on that dress
A little sweet perfume
'Cause I'm on my way to you

Yeah, every curve, every ditch
Every turn, every bridge
I left behind me up in smoke
Every fork in the road
It was all worth the while
When I finally saw your smile
Every highway, every heartbreak
Every mountain, every mile

All the boats I've missed
All the hell I've caused
All the lips I've kissed
All the love I've lost
I thank God for that
I guess He always knew
I was on my way to you

On my way to you
On my way to you

Doubt Me Now

People like you got nothin' better to do
Than throw rocks at things that shine
Well, you oughta be chasin' your own dreams
'Stead of shootin' holes in mine
Then again, keep it comin', keep your big mouth runnin'
Keep kickin' me while I'm down
Hop on the bandwagon, man, while you can
Better doubt me now

Keep buildin' that chip up on my shoulder
Keep feedin' that monkey on my back
I can feel your hot air blowin' in colder
Stokin' this fire up under my ass
Got me livin' for the day, gonna see my face
Big as life last laughin' out loud
Lovin' all you haters
Beggin' you to doubt me now

Like a walk-on quarterback, a wanna be Cadillac
A backup to a third string
I'm outside the box, ain't got no shot
At the bull's eye or the brass ring
Yeah, I've heard it all, betcha thought I'd crawl
Under a rock and never wanna come out
But I'll never let you give me a reason to
To doubt me now

So keep buildin' that chip up on my shoulder
Keep feedin' that monkey on my back
I can feel your hot air blowin' in colder
Stokin' this fire up under my ass
Got me livin' for the day, gonna see my face
Big as life last laughin' out loud
Lovin' all you haters
Beggin' you to doubt me now
C'mon!

Yeah, keep buildin' that chip up on my shoulder
Keep feedin' that monkey on my back
I can feel your hot air blowin' in colder
Stokin' this fire up under my ass
Got me livin' for the day, gonna see my face
Big as life, last laughin' out loud
Lovin' all you haters
Beggin' you to doubt me now
Yeah, I love all you haters
Come on and doubt me now
Try and doubt me now
Hop on the bandwagon

Dear Rodeo

Dear Rodeo
I'd be lying if I tried to tell you I don't think about you
After all the miles and the wild nights that we've been through

Lord knows we had a few
Dear Rodeo
I'd like to say that I took the reigns and rode away
No regrets, no left unsaids
Just turned the page
Oh, but you know better, babe

Between the almost-had-'ems and broken bones
The dream of the buckle I'll never put on
I'm jaded, woah, I hate it

But somehow the highs outweigh the lows
And I'd do it all again even though we both know
I'd still have to let you go

So dear Rodeo
I tried like hell to tell myself
It was all your fault
I held on tight with all my might
I just couldn't hang on
And that's hard to hang your hat on

Between the almost-had-'ems and broken bones
The dream of the buckle I'll never put on
I'm jaded, woah, I hate it

But somehow the highs outweigh the lows
And I'd do it all again even though we both know
I'd still have to let you go

Dear Rodeo
I'd like to think you miss me too
But I know you don't
Oh, but that don't change the past
And that don't change the truth
I'm still in love with you
Dear Rodeo

Husband And Wives (Live)

Two broken hearts, lonely, lookin' like houses
Where nobody lives
Two people each havin' so much pride inside
Neither side forgives
The angry words spoken in haste
Such a waste of two lives
Oh, it's my belief pride is the chief cause
In the decline of the number of husbands and wives

A woman and a man, a man and a woman
Some can, some can't
Some can't

Oh, two broken hearts, lonely, lookin' like houses
Where nobody lives
Two people each havin' so much pride inside
Neither side forgives
The angry words spoken in haste
Such a waste of two lives
Whoa, it's my belief pride is the chief cause
In the decline of the number of husbands and wives
Whoa, it's my belief pride is the chief cause
In the decline of the number of husbands and wives

His Name Is Jesus (Live)

At the mention of his name
Walls crumble, lives are changed
In the midst of life's temptations
He's there to see us through
This man of which I speak
Is here today for you and me
His name is Jesus
But you can call him as you please

They call him Emmanuel
The King of all Kings
He's the son of The Father
The Prince of Peace
They call him Hosanna
A Lighthouse at Sea
The Rock of Ages
He's a friend to me

Many times I've called his name
Prayed for forgiveness when used in vain
Oh, but there's a peace in knowing
His forgiveness stays the same
Most famous in history
Things he spoke, the whole world still reads
His name is Jesus
But you can call him as you please

They call him Emmanuel
The King of all Kings
He's the son of The Father
The Prince of Peace
They call him Hosanna
A Lighthouse at Sea
The Rock of Ages
And he's a friend to me

They call him Hosana
A Lighthouse at Sea
The Rock of Ages
But he's a friend to me
The Rock of Ages
But he's a friend to me
