Here's your piece of paper, and there's the door
It's time for the next step, don't hit the floor
Serve the man, work with your hands, or do another four
You say, "Let's see what happens, there's gotta be something more"
But you follow anyway and decide to buy the books
Some years go by and you realize what they took
Enough green to go and buy yourself an acre
But at least they gave you another piece of paper
Growing pains
Growing pains
You thought you had it all figured out, and now you see
You're turning into the person you said you'd never be
Now it's time to find a different roof, I know it's hard to believe
With all this stress, maybe a soulmate is what you need
So you go out on the town and somebody catches your eye
You work up the nerve to walk over and say hi
The both of you ask "What's your major?" and "What's your sign?"
Spend the night with each other, and by morning say goodbye
Growing pains
Growing pains
Now you're twenty-two and you still don't know what to do
Life is all what, where, why, when, and who
It's time to find a different place, a different place to go to
Somewhere that can offer the answer for you
So you pack your bags and you find yourself on the opposite coast
For some odd reason you decide it's time to make a toast
"To new beginnings and whatever brings out the most"
Let's hope growing up doesn't make you a ghost
Growing pains
Growing pains
Growing pains
